Technical Specialist Electric Drive Technology

The Electric Drive and Power Supply section is responsible for System, Hardware and Software design of all High Voltage Electric Drives and Power Supply Systems within the Volvo Car Group R&D division. The Electric Drives and Power Supply are one of three sections in Electric Propulsion Systems of the Electrics/Electronics & E-propulsion (EEEP) unit at R&D. Electric Drive System includes Electrical Machines and Inverters. Power Supply System includes Converters and Chargers.
As Technical Specialist Electric Drive Technology you will be a senior contributor in Volvo Car Group's strategy towards Plug-in Hybrids in order to meet challenging CO2, performance and drivability requirements of the future. This is a position where you are in the very core of the Electric Drives Technology in one of the strongest brands pushing products with electric propulsion systems to the market, you will have a great opportunity to develop your skill set. This both from a technology standpoint, but also developing your leadership competency to guide and educate our engineers as well as give clear and logic directions to the management.
Main responsibilities

• Develop and manage the foundation of System requirements and design strategies for Electric Drive System, Electric machine and inverter topologies
• Capture business and technology trends. Perform competitor analyses, benchmark and conduct supplier assessments
• Lead product and business strategy work and deliver Technical Insight, TCP/SDP and CBP
• Manage technology roadmaps and lead strategic discussions with suppliers
• Lead concept development, sizing and optimal design trade-off work for Electric Drive systems in the total driveline
• Develop analytical system engineering methods and tools for the design of Electric Drives
• Lead and mentor continuous development of Design Guidelines
• Drive annual work/studies. Formulate AE/OD needs and means
• Initiate and lead AE/Research projects and OD in order to ensure Readiness of Key+ Technology
• On request realize the SA role
• Proactively advice line management, provide engineering guidance and deliver education material, teaching activities, conference papers and being a speaker at conferences
• Maintain and drive cross-functional work with adjacent R&D departments, PPL, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Service

Required qualifications

• M.Sc. or equivalent based on work experience
• 10 years of hands-on work in related technology area and knowledge of all phases in product development
• Expert of technology content and customer value chains
• Skills to make design trade-offs of Electric Drive Systems relative to powertrain and vehicle architectures
• Result orientated and ability to think conceptually
• Comprehensive experience from driveline development work
• Ability to lead and implement change and move processes forward

• Demonstrated capability to lead an internal team in the delivery of technical objectives
