Technical Specialist Connected Safety

Volvo Car Group aims for leadership within Highly Automated Driving. Entering the field of self-driving vehicles is the next giant leap in Volvo Car Group's development of the world's safest cars. We are taking a strategic step to strengthen the implementation of strategies for technological leadership through the Technical Specialist Program, which purpose is to develop a strong technical workforce dedicated to innovation, product excellence and continuous improvement of core processes. The program will provide employees with a viable technical career path and the career growth opportunities are based on the organisation's need and the individual's technical contribution to the organisation.

This position is part of the Highly Automated Driving and Connected Safety development team at Volvo Car Group. The team is dedicated to bringing self-driving cars to the market, starting with the Swedish project "Drive Me", which is intended to shift the current driving paradigm and take advantage of automation to promote sustainable mobility Adding wireless information and cloud processing to active safety represents a significant step. Our long-term vision of "making cars that do not crash" needs cloud connectivity in order to come true. Creating new solutions will require new thinking. The work environment is agile, challenging and dynamic.

Main Responsibilities

• Deliver Vision, Mission & Strategy, as well as Benchmark report covering competitors, suppliers, and authorities
• Supervise AE and research projects
• Deliver education material and carry through education
• Maintain personal expertise in the area, and follow the research frontier
• Apply for research and innovation projects which are co-financed by the authorities
• Actively work together with academia to make use of the research frontier in strategic technology areas for Connected Safety, e.g. streaming data processing, 5G D2D applications
• Develop and maintain relations with universities through supervision of doctorate programs, thesis works etc. Proactively participate in seminars, conferences and conventions

Required qualifications

• M.Sc or higer technical education
• Recognized leadership and technical expertise in Connected Safety, with broad focus (systems expert)
• At least 10 years automotive experience with a broad academic and supplier network
• Experienced in initiating and drive cross-functional work to introduce Connected Safety solutions, both the vehicle system and the cloud functions/logic
• Demonstrated personal contribution in development of advanced technologies/processes and transfer of technology for automotive applications

Personal qualities

• Communication ability, especially regarding complex technical issues
• Good ability to work in a small, agile team
• Holistic understanding of the needs of the end customer
• High level of communication skills and teamwork ability, e.g. invited as speaker, media
