We are looking for a Technical Expert within Field Data Crash Consequences with a genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.

We are proud of our track record including numerous world's firsts, all based on real world research and knowledge: exemplified by the safety belt (1959), SIPS (1991), WHIPS (1998), City Safety (2008), Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto brake (2010), and Run off Road protection (2015).

The future challenges and opportunities are exciting and through advanced technology and research we are developing safety with regards to injury prevention and collision avoidance, which in recent years has seen an extensive expansion into areas such as Autonomous Drive, User Experience, Perceived Safety and Driver Behavior.

What you'll do
In this role, your focus as a Technical Expert will be on Field Data Crash Consequences.

The general role of a Technical Expert at Volvo Cars at is to deliver scientific and strategic input within your area of expertise, as well as addressing key issues and providing insights into customer needs and perform benchmarks relevant to the area. In addition, you are also expected to increase the organizational competence through coaching and teaching within the area of specialty.

As a Technical Expert within Field Data Crash Consequences, you will perform and lead the method developments and data analyses of real-world crash data, including novel ways of addressing the knowledge creation on injury occurrence, mechanisms and consequences. You will investigate and combine different data sources (e.g. aggregated, in-depth, user studies) from an injury prevention and human-centric consequence perspective, and take the lead in developments of methods for enhanced data collection and analysis.

The goal is to identify and quantify injury causation mechanisms on global as well as injury-site level, within an overall human-centric and business-driven context. You are expected to deliver scientific and strategic input, address, and resolve key technical issues as well as global surveillance, incl. customer needs and benchmark. Specifically, you will lead real-world crash data analysis needs, to provide prerequisites for protection guidelines and product development and to identify mechanisms and create methods applicable in product development. You will also contribute to external exposure of Volvo's safety leadership (e.g. through expert groups, scientific articles, and public outreach), in addition to increase organizational competency by mentoring, coaching and teaching within the area of specialty.

You and your skills
We believe you have a master's or PhD level degree within a relevant area, as well as competence in biomechanics of impact trauma. You have knowledge and substantial experience of crashworthiness assessment within automotive safety, as well as high skills in statistical analysis and real-world data analysis. You also have experience from leading and developing individuals and teams, and high level of communication skills and presentation techniques.

On a personal level, you first and foremost share our genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety. You have great analytic skills and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights from a holistic view. You always keep a customer focus, a positive attitude, and a high motivation. You have an inner drive and are truly innovative. Furthermore, you are well organized but still flexible. You are also a reliable team player who enjoys collaboration.
