Technical Expert Emission Related OBD

The section Powertrain Diagnostics and Dependability, within Complete Powertrain, has the mission to ensure that the development of the next generation engines reflects our brand essence of 'Designed Around You'. The section is also the responsibility to ensure that all legal and customer attributes regarding On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and Powertrain dependability are met. All activities aim to deliver world class OBD and dependability. Currently the section includes approximately 100 employees, organized into six groups.

As Technical Expert Emission Related On-Board Diagnostics you provide engineering guidance and are the person that supplies all of R&D with OBD competence and support when transforming strategies into requirements and technical solutions. Main business drivers are: avoidance of un-necessary warranty spending, customer dissatisfaction, non-compliance situations and poor service performance. Technical motivators are: OBD solutions compliant with legislation, the OBD system's ability to robustly detect faults at the correct malfunction level and provide correct service information for repair.

Main responsibilities

• Create and maintain OBD strategy regarding emission related monitoring
• Perform reviews, provide engineering guidance, act like a "go-to person" when transforming strategies into requirements and technical solutions
• Identify needs for development of Process, Methods and Tools
• Research and develop world class OBD feed-back systems
• Provide education material and carry out education within TS area
• Support in strategies of future vehicle services and repair concepts for the aftermarket
• Support in contacts with authorities, in legal matters concerning future legislation
• Develop and maintain relations with universities through supervision of doctorate programs, thesis works and by providing lectures
• Deliver applications and guidance for research and innovation projects

Required qualifications

• At least 15 years of experience within the OBD area
• Experience in Embedded Control System Engineering
• Knowledge of propulsion systems and powertrain development
• Extensive knowledge of legal requirements (OBDII regulation) and required OBD functionality
• Solid knowledge of the development process, methods and tools for development of OBD systems
• Solid knowledge of aftermarkets demands on the OBD system
• Capability and willingness to teach / coach / mentor others at the workplace
• Demonstrated initiative and capability to provide technical leadership to peers and management
• Experience of legal interpretation and regulatory meetings with CARB is meritorious
• Experience from practical work at aftermarket / current model quality is meritorious
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
