The Aerodynamics section within Environment & Fluid Dynamics department is a part of the Complete Vehicle organization at R&D. At Aerodynamics we work closely together with Product Design and other engineering departments to develop the vehicle exterior as well as components and systems for efficient energy use in the vehicle to ensure class-leading fuel economy and stable driving dynamics. We work with advanced research, pre-project phases and project development to ensure our future competitiveness and competence.
As an Aerodynamics Technical Expert you will support achievement of Corporate Targets on fuel consumption savings and VCCs wanted position for Volvo brand in Environmental Care - one of the three Volvo Core Values.
The responsibility will cover all areas of aerodynamic impact on product development, including aerodynamic drag and aerodynamic vehicle dynamics such as side wind and high speed stability. Since aerodynamics is a highly complex area, which necessitates long experience and high educational skills, a specialist position is justified.
Main responsibilities
* Responsible for creation and maintenance of a long-term strategy and Technical Insight (TI) for aerodynamics and inform all relevant departments of how they can be affected.
* Responsible for the testing co-ordination between Handling and Aerodynamics departments with regard to side-wind and high-speed stability
* Responsible for accredited test method AEDMG, and for education of new test engineers within the Aerodynamics department
* Responsible for SWEDAC-accredited testing methods
* Represent the company at internal and external technical meetings and in working groups
* Understand report on and integrate the effects of the introduction of WLTP (World Light duty Test Procedure) with aerodynamics
Required qualifications
* MSc with fluid-/aerodynamic knowledge
* 10 years of relevant experience
* Working knowledge of applicable Design, Analysis, Verification and Quality
* Working knowledge of interfacing subsystems to enable system optimisation
* Experience from the Automotive industry
* Demonstrated experience in wind tunnel testing
* Experience in CFD flow simulations
* Driving license
* Demonstrated initiative & capability to provide leadership/support to peers & management, within the technical area
* Experience of product development is meritorious
* Fluency in English, both spoken and written (Swedish advantageous)

* Capability and willingness to teach/ coach/ mentor and document technical knowledge
* Ability to lead a team in the delivery of technical objectives
* Have a genuine interest in cars
