Technical Expert, Adhesive

As Technical Expert, Adhesive within the group Surface Treatment you have the material responsibility for adhesives throughout the organisation. The Surface Treatment Engineering group is responsible for all surface treatment designs within Body & Closures. We also have the product and material responsibility for all surface treatment materials globally including hem flange adhesives.

Your position is within the Surface Treatment Engineering group. However, some of your reporting is done on section or department level. This means that you establish and develop relationships with representatives from many areas of the vehicle. You will therefore build and maintain a wide personal network within Volvo Cars. Main responsibilities

• Support attribute- and project teams in implementing adhesive bonding as new technology in body & exterior structures and drive the continuous product and process quality improvement work
• Provide technical support and expertise to internal and external parties (including suppliers), within the area of adhesive bonding/hem flange materials
• Align the material strategy for Adhesive Bonding/hem flange materials in body & exterior structures within VCC and deliver, on an annual basis, a documented Vision, Mission & Strategy
• Educate colleagues within the area
• Deliver research work to define new requirement specifications and corresponding verification/validation methods and development of new materials
• Represent the company at internal and external technical meetings
• Develop and maintain relations with universities through supervision of doctorate programs, thesis works etc

Required qualifications

• PhD within Polymers, Rheology or at least 10 years of working experience in the area of adhesives and polymers
• Extensive knowledge in the area of adhesive bonding
• Strong record of technical innovation/contribution/leadership resulting in implementation within the production systems
• Documented proof of technological improvements transferred to internal company management, operations, or technical societies
• Recognised as a go-to person
• Fluent in speaking and writing Swedish and English
• Meritorious is skills in German

• Great engineering- and analytical skills
• Strong at communication and a good team player
• Good administrative and project management skills
• Driven and self-motivated
