Avalanche Studios is looking for a very experienced, exceptionally talented technical designer with a passion for physics and physics simulations. As a technical designer your work will be focused around what you like to do the most: building great open world games! With the support and direction from the creative lead, you will work with all the members within the team, crossing disciplines and flexibly adapting to the needs of different strike teams. You will be a major link between content creators and coders, and a central figure in the development process.
Among your tasks:
Create workflows and best scripting practices for other designers to use
Prototype new functionalities and gameplay entities
Design/implement in-house tools
Support designers in tuning and balancing key aspects of the game
Write/design gameplay specifications for coders
Document editor features
Work closely with tools coders and maintain a feature database for in-house tools
Qualifications
5+ years industry experience as programmer or technical designer
One or more games shipped as programmer or technical designer
Significant experience with Havok Physics and with physics simulations
Significant scripting experience, basic C++ proficiency
Comfortable with physics and mathematics
Working experience of giving high and low level design and technical feedback to other designers (as well as accept criticism)
You’re articulate, have strong conceptual skills and the ability to communicate your ideas visually and verbally
Passion for games and ability to articulate that passion clearly and analytically
Experience in an open world title
Encyclopedic game culture
You’ve built a Rube Goldberg machine
