Team Manager - Product Performance Characterisation and Analytical Automation Inhalation Product Development.

AstraZeneca now offers a unique opportunity for an experienced Analytical Chemist with leadership capabilities and ambitions to join the Inhalation Product Development - In our laboratories, you'll have access to a large network of scientific leaders and will collaborate across the globe with the very best in the field.

The Inhalation Product Development- Pharma is responsible for product design and development for inhaled products including line extensions and product maintenance activities. The Unit is one of two Inhalation Units in Gothenburg and a part of the overall Inhalation Product Development with major presence also in Bad Homburg (Germany), Durham (North Carolina) and Redwood City (California).

To further enhance the delivery capabilities of the Unit we will form a Team specialising in characterisation and automation aspects of inhaled products and are now looking for a leader of this Team. The Team will work with the development, optimisation, automation and control of inhaled product performance characteristics as applied to our current and new inhalers. Collaboration with other teams, units and sites within AstraZeneca will be crucial.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As Team Manager you will lead a team of 6-12 people, primarily analytical chemists and automation experts accountable for the development, implementation and optimisation of inhaled drug product performance characteristicsation technology and automation for the further use in drug product projects and the development of new inhalers. As Team Manager you will:
Sets clear direction and objectives, aligned with strategies and priorities of the wider organization
Motivates and coaches direct reports for enhanced performance on a continuous basis.
Leads the development and implementation of new Science and Technology within the scope of the team. This will enable the group and wider organisation to enhance flexibility, efficiency and delivery
Ensures delivery of SHE and cGMP compliance for the Team, ensuring that all work is carried out with regard to AstraZeneca and external regulatory policies and standards
May represent Product Development in Science and Technology Project Teams or other R&D teams
Operates confidently as part of a global organisation with an integrating mindset to create an organisation prepared for future challenges and change

Essential Requirements
Substantial experience in Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry
Have a thorough understanding of the overall drug development process with an appreciation of how Pharmaceutical Technology & Development contributes to the broader business
Have a keen interest and preferably experience in the automation of analytical methods and related validation activities e.g. reviewing robot design documentation.
Preferably have experience in the development of inhaled drugs
Have sufficient understanding in the disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences in order to contribute to a world class Product development organization
Have an understanding of principles, applications and management of SHE and cGMP
Likely to be a PhD or a BS/MS, in combination with at least 5 years experience within the business and industry

Excellent team working and networking skills and the ability to engage staff in portfolio deliverables and new initiatives
Ability to coach direct reports for enhanced performance as well as for continuous development on both an individual and on a team basis
A good communicator with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline
Capable of managing the team in changes and under pressure, with a strong focus on mainting a work-life balance
Able to demonstrate the energy and drive required to establish the role and make a real difference
Demonstrate a high degree of personal credibility
Work collaboratively across boundaries
