This is how you will impact the future for Volvo Penta
Field Testing is the last step in the verification and validation chain of our future products. This is the first time the newly developed products are put in real life operation together with selected customers. As a team leader for the marine field test team, you will be responsible for defining new field tests together with the projects, sales and aftermarket department, with shipyards and customers. You will lead the preparation of upcoming field tests and together with the field test engineer, make sure the installation of our testing equipment will be carried out and started up. You will also plan for resources together with the manager and make sure the team has the prerequisites to perform their work in the best possible way. By this we will make sure we get the best possible verification and validation out in the field and to get the highest possible quality on our products.
Who are you?
Well, I could describe you, our future colleague, as a person who has experience and knowledge of leading teams or experience in project management. And that it would be nice if you have experience of diesel engine development, engine development testing or field testing activities in marine engine or shipping. And on top of that, tell you that you need to be fluent in Swedish and English and preferably have a university degree. All this is partly true, I believe that these might be experiences and knowledge that you probably have to be able to work and succeed as a Team Leader in our department.
But then, I reminded myself that at Volvo Penta we believe in the concept 'hire for attitude and learn for skills'. Because that is actually what counts in the end. And if you are initiative taking, structured and well organized, enjoy working in teams and have the ability to work with several parallel tasks and functions. Then we are sure that you will be a great benefit to us. I think the most important quality for a team leader is to have good communication skills and the ability to keep the team together and motivate them.
PS. You probably need to be outgoing, since you will be Penta's face towards the field test customers. And you probably need to understand the projects requirements and be able to present the end customers' point of view towards the project. Because this is kind of what you're going to do in this role as a Team Leader. You will also have the great opportunity to travel for work, so a valid driver's license would make it easier for you to visit our customers.

Field Test and Data Management within Product & Solutions Development is responsible for performing field tests, make sure we gather all necessary information and visualize and analyze the data. The department currently consists of about 16 Engineers working in different projects. The marine field test team consists of 4 driven colleagues. We are a team that works in close cooperation and always would like to support each other. Team spirit is very important for us and that gives energy to perform and deliver, but also to have fun at work.
