The Arena
The role will be to lead an in vivo pharmacology team of up to ten direct reports in the Respiratory and Inflammation Bioscience Department, the section of in vivo Pharmacology, providing leadership and direction and contributing to drug discovery project delivery through the motivation and development of people and line competence.
The role
As a Team Leader you will be expected to manage risk using evaluative judgments in complicated or novel situations. In addition, he/she is expected to have effective levels of interactive communication within the team and directly advising and influencing those within the team. The Team Leader will be responsible for managing all aspects of the output of the team and ensure compliance with corporate policies including GLS and SHE. This includes responsibility for setting and maintaining the highest scientific standards, developing the line competence, provide flexible project support and motivate and develop team members to maximise their potential. To contribute to and as part of the section leadership team influence the strategic direction of the team and section to shape and advance the scientific direction of projects and the functional discipline to enhance drug discovery project support.
Requirements
We are looking for a scientist with a PhD or equivalent background with extensive experience of respiratory and inflammatory animal models. Experience in other related areas (such as Inflammation, Immunology) is also valuable. This role requires significant people management skills and a proven track record of leading high-performing teams in drug discovery. Highly motivated and committed individual with good communication skills and ability to influence across the value chain. Proven ability to form networks across boundaries. Good scientific publication record.
The role requires a thorough understanding of therapeutic needs and therapies in the respiratory and Inflammation disease area.. Understanding of the linking of the in vivo models and results into the context of a clinical setting and how simple and complex outcome measures are used for in vivo studies. Knowledge of ex vivo pharmacology and it use to build links across Discovery value chain (e.g. cell biology).
Fluency in spoken and written English.
