To further strengthen our expertise and capacity in each of these strategic research areas we are currently recruiting two experienced Team Leaders to lead and develop our In Vivo Sciences teams within the Bioscience unit. The roles will be adapted to suit chosen candidates' background and experience (career level E or F).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

This is a challenging leadership and scientific role which includes training, development and deployment of line reports to optimize drug project delivery and staff development. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across functions to continuously improve the effectiveness of the Bioscience Department and IMED.

As Team Leader you are expected to

* Ensure Team members provide optimal animal welfare following 3Rs principles
* Demonstrate personal leadership, be respectful, communicate openly and show effective collaborative behaviour to obtain high quality study results
* Ensure fair work distribution and also that Projects get the required level of resource to complete studies to time
* Drive innovation and scientific excellence within the Team
* Ensure compliance with corporate code of conduct guidance and GLS guidelines
* Ensure adherence to best SHE practice
* Be accountable to manage resources effectively, providing flexible, competent and responsive services in good quality and speed according to our business needs; continuously enhance productivity and cost efficacy
* Establish appropriate and measurable objectives for performance and provide on-going performance feedback to staff
* Select, develop, coach, mentor, retain, motivate and inspire scientists; create and maintain a work environment in which scientific challenge and innovation are maximized.
* Ensure that the members of the section have the right knowledge and education for the activities.

* Publish papers and reviews in internationally recognised journals
* To provide scientific leadership and mentorship for less experienced scientists
* To work in accordance with SHE requirements and in compliance with all AZ Corporate responsibility policies as well as the legal and ethical requirements pertinent to in vivo experiments.
* To document and store data according to IMED and departmental policies.
* Contribute to create a vibrant and entrepreneurial organization focused on new ideas, innovative ways of working and continuous learning
* Collaborate closely with other teams to drive efficiency and take advantage of knowledge and experiences.



Essential Requirements

* PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline
* Experience of line management of skilled professional staff
* Significant experience in in vivo biology
* Broad background and comprehensive understanding of Drug Discovery and Development as well as having a good understanding of chemistry and Safety Assessment.
* Certificates of basic education and training in laboratory animal science
* Strong Leadership Capabilities with emphasis on people management and development of others
* Written and oral communication skills including presentation skills and contributions to peer reviewed publications
* Excellent interpersonal skills that influence and shape the image of the organization internally
* Outstanding team working skills and a proven track record of working collaboratively to ensure scientific excellence and rapid progression of projects.
* At least 5 years of relevant Drug Discovery and/or relevant discipline experience.
* Solid knowledge in in vivo biology, practical animal handling, respiratory in vivo techniques with a strong repertoire of practical techniques.
* Documenting and reporting data.
* Knowledge in IS/IT systems relevant to deliverables
