Role Summary
This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden.
As a System Test Developer, you will contribute to securing the quality, safety and reliability of the Engine Management System (EMS) and Aftertreatment Management System (AMS). You will work handson in bench, HIL and vehicle environments while continuously improving how we verify our software. The role requires ownership, analytical thinking and a strong drive to improve our testing methods.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will have a direct impact on how TRATON verifies its powertrain control systems. You will apply test techniques, shape test strategies and collaborate closely with engineers across the development chain to ensure safe and robust system performance. Your work will involve handson testing, requirement analysis and continuous improvement of both methods and tools.
Your key responsibilities include:
Developing, designing and automating system test cases based on new requirements and functionality, using both manual and automated test techniques.
Executing regression test cases in bench setups or HIL environments and documenting results, deviations and improvement findings.
Reviewing specifications and requirements from a system test perspective to ensure robustness and coverage across EMS and AMS functionalities.
Driving continuous improvement related to test methods, automation, quality and workflow efficiency.
Collaborating closely with test engineers, developers and other stakeholders to ensure safe and reliable system performance across different EMS and AMS generations.
Who You Are
You have the ability to quickly familiarise yourself with complex problems and enjoy finding creative solutions together with your colleagues. You are a team player who takes responsibility and actively contributes to both your own development and that of the team. You are methodical, structured, and possess strong analytical skills.
We believe you recognise yourself in the following:
You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or an equivalent field.
You have experience in test development and test execution. An ISTQB certification is an advantage, as is experience from automated test environments such as HIL.
Experience in Python is considered a merit.
You hold a driving licence for passenger cars; a C or CE licence is an additional merit.
You write and speak English fluently.
Experience and interest in vehicles, software development, system testing, or engine development are highly advantageous.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds - your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.
This Is Us
The group consists of test developers, test engineers, a product owner, a scrum master, and a manager. We perform system tests that ensure safe, robust, and reliable operation of EMS and AMS across multiple generations, covering both new development and production updates. We value open communication, constructive feedback, and a collaborative atmosphere where professional growth is encouraged.
What we offer in the team:
You will work with a wide variety of systemtest tasks that offer both analytical and handson challenges. We support your development through internal and external training, and you will have the opportunity to grow into deep technical expertise within systemtest development, automation, or Python - or into technical leadership roles if that aligns with your ambitions. Continuous improvement and personal development are central to how we work. We work in a hybrid work setup, meaning you can work from home a few days a week if the job allows.
Within TRATON Group R&D, you are an important part of something bigger. Joining us means gaining access to the ins and outs of the entire transportation industry.
