Your workplace
Aeronautics, a business area of Saab, offers advanced airborne systems, related subsystems, unmanned aerial systems, aerostructures and services to defence customers and commercial aerospace industries worldwide. Aeronautics is also responsible for development, production, marketing, selling and supporting of the Gripen fighter.
The section Geodata and Visualization is responsible for the management and supply of geospatial data to Gripen, the Gripen support systems and flight simulators. Our work also includes production of 3D-environments for the training simulators, 2D-maps for mission planning and evaluation systems, and navigational databases for the Gripen aircraft and other advanced airborne systems such as UAS.
The section also holds the responsibility for development and maintenance of the Digital Map Generating System (DMGS) which is based on ESRI's products ArcGIS and ArcMap. DMGS is the main tool used in the production of geodatabases for the Gripen system.
Saab’s Geodata Competence Center forms part of the section. The center is responsible for the geodata supply to all land-, air- and sea systems throughout Saab.
The section has a total of 22 employees with varying professional backgrounds, including competence and experience within system engineering, visualization and geodata related work. We have the ability to work independently but also in close cooperation with our colleagues at Saab as well as with our worldwide customers. We enjoy a positive workplace atmosphere of trust and communication and are proud of our work.
Your role
You will work at Saab’s Geodata Competence Center as part of a team responsible for the management, coordination and production of geospatial data for the geodata dependent systems at Saab. When needed, you will also support geospatial related operations within Saab and act as a contact person for external suppliers on a continuous basis.
You will be involved in the geodata production and support for the whole range of Saab systems; Gripen, Giraffe, UAS, training systems, simulators, helicopters, and command and control systems. You will take part in the whole process: initial discussions with the customer, making suggestions for production contents and design, ordering data, processing and optimizing geodata, testing, and final installation in the target systems will synthesize a highly challenging and exciting work setting. The geographical data you will handle include satellite- and aerial imagery, landing- and navigational data for aircraft, sea charts, vector data, and open street map data.
Your qualifications
You are a dedicated individual with an appropriate work background as a certified engineer, graduate engineer, geomatics engineer or equivalent with a competence and experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Knowledge and experience of the ESRI product ArcGis as well as work with geospatial data or work within any Saab system are considered valuable merits.
We believe that you are a committed, cooperative, and self-motivated person with a good sense of responsibility, and willing to work for continuous improvement. You have good interpersonal skills, a methodical approach to work and have excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Swedish and English.
Working at Saab
Saab’s operations cover a large geographical area and many high-technology products and services. This gives you as employee unique opportunities to develop and grow within the group. We are also aware of the fact that all of us have a life outside the workplace and here at Saab we have a positive attitude to every individual’s need for balance in life. We are proud of being a company of choice; something that all our employees contribute to.
