GPX Medical AB seeks a System engineer for optical instrumentation to join our R&D team for development of diagnostic medical devices based on diode laser gas spectroscopy.
GPX Medical is a high-tech start-up company based in Lund, which develops medical device technology for non-invasive gas analysis of body cavities for diagnostic purposes, based on laser spectrocopy. The current main focus is on development of a technique for diagnostic support of lung complications in pre-term infants.
The Role
The position as System engineer for optical instrumentation in the GPX Medical team includes participating in ongoing and future projects in the development of technology and instrumentation for diode laser-based medical devices for gas analysis. The work encompasses the full system engineering aspect of development, but with a special focus on the optical engineering. The role includes managing sub-projects of the system development. The work means close collaboration with external partners and clinical staff, and hands-on pre-clinical and clinical tasks.
The work location is in Lund.
This a full-time position.
International travel to suppliers, partners, and external collaborators is part of the job with an estimated 10 travelling days per year.
Success in this role requires skills/good knowledge/experience in:
• Prototyping of measurement devices/instruments
• Optical spectroscopy
• Optical instrumentation
• Systematic experimental work
• General physics knowledge
• Instrument design (architecture, SW, HW)
• Good skills in communication both internally and with external collaborators
• Coordinating and organisational skills
Preference will be given to those with experience in at least some of the following areas:
• Gas analysis, in particular tunable diode laser spectroscopy (TDLAS), or similar laser spectroscopy
• Optical design
• Electronic design / knowledge
• Mechanical design / CAD
• Embedded systems
• Linux
• Product development
• Project management
• Medical device development
• Patent / IP management
• National or EU-level publicly funded research projects
The successful candidate has a minimum degree corresponding to Master of Science in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. Minimum working experience 2 years.

About GPX Medical
GPX Medical is a newly founded subsidiary of GASPOROX AB (publ), with the mission to develop and commercialise diode laser gas spectroscopy for medical device applications. GPX Medical shares offices and laboratory space with GASPOROX in Lund.
GPX Medical pursues an advanced development programme in medical device technology, to develop a novel diagnostic sensor for non-invasive lung gas measurements of pre-term babies. GPX Medical is currently coordinating an EU-funded development project that aims to create a prototype device for clinical trials in three years, together with three other European partners.
