To setup a real-time Linux operating system with a custom kernel that supports the requirements from the automation team at our client.
The OS should run on two existing industrial PC's and fulfill a set of requirements stated below. We have already started experimenting with a lightweight Linux distribution (CRUX) patched with the RT-Preempt Patch and we have some user applications up and running. To communicate between these computers and other sensors/equipment we use LCM (Lightweight Communications and Marshalling) which is based on UDP.
REQUIREMENT:
SKILLS
• Real-time capabilities.
• Drivers for the hardware including power management, network card specific drivers and specific CAN-drivers.
• Reliable network communication over UDP (LCM).
• Able to create installation script/package of the operating system to simplify future installations.
• Documentation on the setup and the rationale of the system design where applicable.
EXPEREINCE
• Very (5+ years documented) experienced with setting up Linux kernels and systems.
• Knowledge of real-time kernels and the effects of this in system performance
• Extensive knowledge on network communications, especially on the lower network stack levels, as we have experienced problems with packet drops and network performance.
• Social skills and open to sharing knowledge with the team to increase our knowledge in this field.
