System Design Lead Engineer

The section Engine Controls & Calibration has the main purpose to develop mechatronic control system strategies to deliver refined engine characteristics for all Volvo Cars Petrol and Diesel engines. Our control systems have the most critical core functionality developed inhouse at Volvo Car Group. All merged for excellent controls performance and the very best driving experience for the Volvo customer. Besides the product oriented technical development we have a strong drive to continuously refine tools and methods for the most efficient work approach. As a System Design Lead Engineer you will be responsible for identifying and establishing a solid requirement base within the system area, bring support to initiating new development activities and robust engineering leading to mature concept in our early phases. The challenge is to deliver the right prerequisites for industrialisation and hence a healthy sign off for mass production with all the characteristics in place. You will have a cross functional role and connect to many of the sections co-workers. Along your side you are going to have the sections two technical experts in engine controls plus sub system lead engineers for each technical area within our design responsibility.

Main responsibilities
• Use system engineering methods to develop a balanced technical, logical and financially balanced solution that works with the adjoining system areas
• Lead the sections system area until the industrialisation phase starts
• Take part in optimising, evaluating and balancing of requirement fulfilment on over heading and underlying system area
• Secure scalability for the sections system area between platforms
• Report in both line organisation and project organisation
• Participation in development of property strategies
• Compilation of requirements to be used during concept phase, for sourcing but also for development sign-off
• Planning of supplier contacts together with system teams and purchasing
• Input data to concept gates

Required qualifications
• M.Sc. or equivalent education within relevant programme
• Very high theoretical and practical knowledge within the system area
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Experience from Robust Engineering or Design for 6Sigma is meritorious
• An asset would be experience of Project Management
• An established work approach with distinct communication and minding the details
