We stand in front of significant challenges, where reducing CO2 footprint of our products is one of the biggest and we have transformed over the past years by simplifying and empowering our organization and way of working. As an integrated part of this we have high expectations to shorten development time and cost and drive innovation and employee engagement by leading technology and people.
The PE Sweden organization has the full responsibility for Platform Center Heavy Duty Engines, Transmission as well as Application Center Heavy Duty Europe. The organization takes the product ownership role and optimizes complete powertrain systems through usage of components tailored for each application.
At Base Engine, we develop components and systems throughout the complete product life cycle that are used in combustion engines as well as in electric vehicles and hybrids. We drive the co-operation with other engineering sites and cross-functionally to secure technical roadmaps and platform development trough CAST. We also do simulations, NVH, engine design, geometrical architecture, and product documentation for customers within Powertrain as well as for other Volvo functions.
Responsibilities / Main tasks
As System Chief Engineer you lead the technical strategic work within Base Engine in tight co-operation with Powertrain team of chief engineers and the system responsible persons. You are part of the Base Engine management team and contribute to the operational management of the department.
You maximize customer offering while maintaining platform coherency over time and you promote early system integration work in projects to optimize the complete product.
You find common ground and resolve problems despite conflicting demands of stakeholders while still having the decision authority in technical matters. You create organization-wide energy and optimism for the future with clear milestones for technology decisions and an articulated vision that everyone can relate to. You're responsible for strategic direction setting and optimization across systems by balancing technical concepts. With customer in mind, you optimize the utilization of technologies. You maintain good contact and lead the work with counterparts in the global cross functional organization.
We develop systems and components strategies and engineering solutions for the entire product life cycle that contribute to our products being the most competitive on the market. With that in mind, you put equal emphasis on developing platform systems and components supporting our global application sites as on the local application development. You are comfortable doing daily prioritization, communication, and balancing of stake-holder expectations to keep the flow and optimize deliveries. You are a people person that enjoys networking, a diverse team and to make people thrive.

You hold minimum a master's degree in engineering
You have proven your ability to perform functional technical leadership, develop technical strategies and drive innovation
You are well experienced in the field of automotive product development with a deep understanding of our product applications for combustion
You are knowledgeable in coming technologies like hydrogen combustion.
You have proven knowledge and understanding of how Base engines systems function, potential failure modes, how they are produced and tested as well as how they interact and balance with other systems of the vehicle and powertrain.
You have deep knowledge about verification & validation methodology e.g. virtual analysis, simulation, data analysis, testing, root cause analysis, FMEA, materials analysis and measurement technology
You communicate with ease in both verbal and written English
