Position Description
The Software Production Preparation team has got the mission to introduce new improved products and production methods in a quality assured way, with special focus on software and mechatronic systems.
The team consists of about 10 engineers who work with production preparation for embedded software. Production preparation means working between product development and the production plants. The team is responsible for creating the Software Bill of Material (SW BoM) for production and create software packages for the control units in the buses. The team develops operations for our plants to be able to load software, verify and validate the electrical system in built buses. The tool used for this (Prosit) is also part of the groups responsibility. Due to the growth of mechatronic support systems in vehicles, this importance is constantly increasing. The team has daily contact with Volvo Bus's plants around the world, but also up to 50 external body builders, giving support with-in the software and electrical domain, so it is a truly global work environment.
Main tasks
As a system owner you will be responsible for IT systems to create the Software Bill of Material (SW BoM) for the vehicles to be built. The main systems are called GeSP, BSP and BOIS. Some systems are shared with other Volvo companies and you will in that case cooperate with them to find the best solution for Volvo. Other applications are developed only for Volvo Bus.
As system owner you keep control of Volvo Bus requirements towards the systems. You have an active role between the users at Volvo Bus and the suppliers of the systems. Part of the role is to actively work in the software support where the systems are used. This means having contact with the different plants and make corrections of the SW BoM. Other responsibilities are to work on system roadmaps, follow up on statistics and KPI's. Due to the global set-up, part of the tasks is to keep an open dialogue with our colleagues in the plants and give support and correct quality problems. The work includes occasional travel to chassis and body plants around the world.
