hela Sverige The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology was founded in the late 1970s - when the College of Forestry moved to Umeå. The number of employees has since grown steadily is now around 100, including postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students. In the late 1990s it was decided to join with the Department of Plant Physiology at Umeå University to form a research center, Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC). The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology moved into the premises adjacent to the partner department and together have developed a close and successful collaboration on research issues, technology platforms, and training of master's and doctoral level students. The international element within UPSC is large, with over 40 nationalities represented.
The department conducts introductory and advanced training in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant molecular biology, forest genetics and forest biotechnology within the Forestry program and at the master level.
The department offers postgraduate studies in biology, specializing in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant molecular biology and forest genetics. Postgraduate courses are generally held in cooperation with the Department of Plant Physiology.

The position is linked to the project "Landscape Breeding" where M Rosario García Gil (MRGG) 's team is developing a method for the sustainable management of conifer forests by combining remote sensing imaging with genetics/genomics.

The Team is searching for a fieldwork assistant to complete the field-work team during the summer. The number of working days as field assistant will vary from week to week according to the project development. The applicant will collect remote sensing images with LiDAR apparatus, tree density with Pilodyn device, collect needles, and measure tree diameter with a electronic caliper.
Work in some of the forests may require overnight at a cottage. A separate room will be provided for each of the Field-work team members, and whenever possible the cottage will have a kitchen. The transportation and pernoctation costs (not the food) are covered by the project. The project will provide adequate clothing for the forest work and offer vaccine against ticks (this voluntary).
Qualifications:
The applicants must have the ability to work in the forest in summer, and possibly autumn season. The applicants are also expected to have a collaborative attitude and be able to communicate preferable in both English and Swedish. It is preferable if the candidate has a swedish driver's license.

Hourly paid temporary employment during the summer. This means that you will be offered work on occasional short-term occasions during this period. A job opportunity can last a few hours to several weeks.
