ISH was established in 1995 to answer a growing demand for a truly international education at the Primary and Secondary levels. Today, we have approximately 800 students between 3 and 19 years of age attending our school across all programmes. The school delivers the International Baccalaureate curriculums.
Our teachers come from more than 30 different countries all over the world, and the same goes for our students. English is the primary language at the school.
Our Early Years, Primary and Middle School programmes offer an alternative for international families who are residing in the Helsingborg region on a temporary basis, or for those moving overseas. Our Diploma Program is an excellent choice for all students, Swedish or International, looking to further their studies abroad or in Sweden once they graduate. The aim of our school is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

The International School of Helsingborg is looking for individuals with training and experience in dealing with students with special needs to support students starting in August 2020. As a PYP Early Years 1-3 student assistant, your role is to support the student within the class at the direction of the SEN teacher. A student assistant is an important and equal part of the team and together, the teacher, the class assistant (if there is one) and the student assistant provide an environment that enables the student receiving support to participate in a respectful environment that encourages positive interpersonal interactions, is stimulating, encourages inquiry and is clean and orderly. You will be responsible for supporting the academic, social and emotional development of the student. You will work closely with the class teacher, SEN teacher and other relevant teachers in our school, particularly the other primary school following the philosophy of the IB education.
You will be expected to interact with all of the students in a caring, positive manner. You will be expected to be professional and flexible, both towards your colleagues and the greater school community.
Qualifications
We are currently looking for candidates who have a teaching degree. Knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom assisting a student with support is a must to be successful in the position. It is a requirement that you possess a degree/certificate in neuro-psychological disorders such as ASD/Asbergers, ADHD, Specific Language Impairment, and/or Tourettes. Training and knowledge of the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and the Swedish TAKK (Tecken som alternativ och kompletterande kommunikation) as alternative/augmentative communication systems is a strong merit. Experience in working with students who have a diagnosis is preferred. Since we work in an international environment, it is a requirement of the position to be fluent in English, both in speaking and writing.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to document relevant behaviors and actions as well as maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports - both manually and digitally.
