The engineering standards department is part of the Global R&D function at Sandvik Mining and Construction (SMC). The main objectives are to standardize processes, technical requirements, product data, etc. in order to simplify communication in the area of CAD/CAM/PLM for engineering departments all over the SMC organization, and to standardize the output from engineering to manufacturing/assembly.
As SMC is building up assembly centers, the need for standardization becomes even more obvious, since the assembly center organization is the receiver of technical documentation from different sites.
Key performance areas
The main role for this function will be to define global technical directives in the area of engineering standards. Such areas can be:
• Material specifications on drawings
• Welding instructions
• Painting instructions
This position will require project management in the global SMC organization. The project teamwork will be accomplished, in part, through on-line meetings and video, but some travelling is also required.
Your profile
To be a successful candidate for this position you must possess an MSc in Mechanical Engineering or similar. Experience in working with engineering and/or standardization would be advantageous. You have the ability to work independently and the courage to stand up for your decisions. You possess good communication skills and are fluent in spoken and written English.
