We are now looking for two Staff Scientists to strengthen our research in radio localization and sensing.
About the role
Radio localization and sensing at Chalmers is growing in scale, technical breadth, and collaborative activity. To provide the scientific continuity, technical depth, and coordination needed for sustained high-quality research, we are recruiting two Staff Scientists.As a Staff Scientist, you will provide advanced scientific, technical, and methodological support within an established research environment. Working on behalf of the research leader, you will contribute specialist expertise, hands-on research, method development, technical mentoring, and coordination of assigned activities in the group's research projects.
You will work closely with Professor Henk Wymeersch and other members of the group to strengthen the capacity, continuity, and long-term development of the group's established research activities. The two appointments will provide complementary expertise. Applicants should identify the profile that best matches their experience; candidates with strengths spanning both areas are also welcome.
Profile 1: Model-based radio localization, sensing, and tracking. This profile focuses on modelling, algorithm development, performance analysis, and signal processing for radio localization, sensing, and tracking in terrestrial and emerging non-terrestrial networks, including satellites, high-altitude platform stations, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Profile 2: Reliable and learning-enabled radio localization and sensing. This profile focuses on developing and applying model-based and learning-based methods for trustworthy and intelligent wireless localization, sensing, and imaging. Relevant themes include privacy, robustness, reliability, model-based AI, machine learning, and semantic or task-driven methods, within the group's established research agenda.

About the division and department
At the Department of Electrical Engineering, research and education are performed in the areas of Communications, Antennas and Optical Networks, Systems and Control, Signal Processing and Biomedical Engineering, and Electric Power Engineering.

Your responsibilities
As a Staff Scientist, you will provide advanced scientific, technical, and methodological support to strengthen the group's research activities. Your responsibilities will include:
Contributing to high-quality research and contributing to scientific publications, research software, methods, and other long-term research outputs relevant to the group's agenda.
Developing and applying specialist methods, models, algorithms, and evaluation approaches in radio localization, sensing, tracking, and related areas.
Providing technical mentoring and co-supervision to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers within the group, under the direction of the research leader.
Contributing to the supervision of BSc and MSc thesis projects, where relevant.
Contributing to the preparation of competitive grant applications that support the group's research activities, including coordinating defined technical or practical components when assigned.
Supporting the execution and coordination of collaborative research projects, including work-package activities, technical reporting, deliverables, and presentations.
Working with academic and industrial partners to support the group's existing collaborations.
Contributing to the development and maintenance of relevant research infrastructure, including simulation, software, experimental, or laboratory resources.

Qualifications and merits
To qualify for this position, you should have:
A doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Signal Processing, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a closely related field, with research relevant to localization, sensing, tracking, or radio-based inference.
Substantial relevant research or specialist experience, aligned primarily with at least one of the two profiles described above.
The ability to work collaboratively within an established research team and to provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior researchers.
Experience contributing to research proposals or applications for external funding.
Strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB, with experience in scientific computing, signal processing, simulation, or machine-learning frameworks.
Proficiency in written and spoken English. Swedish language courses are offered.

The following are considered meritorious:
Experience from contributing to peer-reviewed research publications in relevant international journals and conferences.
Experience supporting or coordinating activities in collaborative research projects, including technical work packages, deliverables, reporting, or presentations.
Experience working with academic or industrial partners.
Experience with simulation, experimental validation, measurement campaigns, research software, or research infrastructure relevant to wireless localization and sensing.
Experience mentoring or co-supervising BSc, MSc, or PhD students.
Experience contributing to the development, maintenance, or operation of research software, experimental platforms, or laboratory facilities.
