Join Our Team as an SQL Database Administrator (DBA)

Are you passionate about database administration and eager to expand your technical skills in a dynamic IT environment? Stena Group IT is looking for a versatile MS SQL DBA to join our IT Operations team. This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives on ensuring the stability, efficiency, and security of databases while also being open to broader technical roles within the IT Operation teams.

As an SQL Database Administrator you will be a crucial part of our IT Operations team. Your primary responsibility will be the management and maintenance of our hybrid MS SQL environment, which includes both on-premises and Azure-based systems. In this role, you will serve as a 3rd line technician, addressing complex database issues and incidents, and act as a technical expert supporting various business projects across the organization.

Key responsibilities - including, but not limited to:

• Database Management: Install, configure, and upgrade MS SQL databases. Monitor and optimize performance to ensure efficient operation and conduct regular backup and recovery procedures.

• Technical Support: Provide 3rd line support for database-related issues, ensuring quick resolution of incidents and service requests.

• Business Project Involvement: Act as a technical expert in various business projects, offering your expertise to ensure database integration and performance meet project requirements.

• Security and Integrity: Implement and maintain security measures to protect databases from unauthorized access and potential threats. Manage user permissions and ensure data integrity.

• Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize database queries and configurations to improve performance and reliability. Monitor database load and address performance bottlenecks.

• Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with other IT team members, sharing your knowledge and learning from others. Promote a collaborative and innovative team environment.

• Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest trends in database technologies and IT security threats. Research and evaluate new tools and techniques to enhance database operations and performance.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking a well-rounded professional with strong SQL DBA skills who is also comfortable handling broader IT tasks, such as server management or monitoring. Ideal candidates will have:

• Proven experience in managing and optimizing SQL databases, both on-premises and in Azure environments.

• Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues and performance problems.

• Strong understanding of security measures and principles for protecting databases and data.

• A team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and learning from others, fostering a positive team environment.

• Willingness to take on diverse technical roles and projects, continuously expanding your skill set.

• Automation and powershell skills - As part of the company's efficiency initiatives, you will actively seek and implement new solutions to automate database-related tasks where possible.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in SQL database administration, including SQL Server and Azure SQL Database. Experience from both an application DBA perspective and operational perspective.

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information security or related field, or equivalent work experience within IT.

• Proficiency in database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security implementation.

• Strong communication skills, able to present and discuss technical information effectively with various stakeholders.
• Experience with server management, monitoring tools, or other IT operations functions is a plus.
