With 8,000 employees, 1,000 in-patient beds an extensive out-patient capacity activity, Akademiska sjukhuset is one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. In addition to the role of county hospital, Akademiska is a provider of highly specialized care with a catchment area of two million people in central Sweden.

The highly specialized cancer center at Akademiska sjukhuset is one of the country's premier. The pace is high, the care is complex involving a variety of specialist skills. Our goal is to be nationally and internationally leading in care, research and education in the field of cancer. Our work is characterized by consideration for both the patient and each other and we work long term and strategically with various forms of competence development. The Department of Hematology, Oncology and Endocrine tumors consists of six sections with in total approximately 400 employees.

In the spring of 2019, the department will be relocating to new, purpose built modern premises with single occupancy patient rooms, and latest medical technology e.g. Sweden's first combined MR and linear accelerator allowing for real time image guided radiation therapy. The new building offer unique opportunities for co-locating different disciplines and functional medical centers into a comprehensive center for cancer care.

To strengthen our current offering to patients, address volume expansion and further our research mission we are inviting additional consultants within radiation therapy, gastrointestinal-, CNS- and gynecological oncology to join our team

Your role
As a consultant you will be an important part of our team in terms of clinical care, education and research. You will be actively working in our outpatient department as well as supporting in-patient care. You will be representing the department in managing internal and external referrals and attending multidisciplinary conferences. You play and active role in developing guidelines, follow up programs and processes and as a senior colleague you're a central part of our patient safety teams. You collaborate with local, regional and national networks. Subject to your background and merits you divide your time between clinical service, education and research. As a senior member of the team your excepted to mentor junior colleagues and other staff.

We offer you a variety of opportunities in a dynamic environment
The radiotherapy department at the Academic Hospital, with 4 Elekta linear accelerators, is responsible for treating approximately 1300 new cases per annum. The section has a long standing history of proton therapy and at present accounts for about 30% of all patients treated at the new proton therapy treatment center Skandion clinic, located on campus Capacity wise the section for oncology hold two in-patient- and one out patient department, a separate day care treatment center with an elective and an acute patient flow. An extensive volume of clinical research activities are coordinated by a dedicated clinical research and development unit, KFUE, with about 30 employees, and research activity most often tripartite between academia, the hospital and the life science industry is generally high.

Qualifications
We are looking for a qualified specialist with specialist competence in one of the following areas:

Radiotherapy
Gastrointestinal oncology
Gynecological oncology
CNS
You have the ability to inspire change and development. In order to succeed, you should have easy cooperation and involvement for both colleagues and patients. Of course, you always put the patient in focus and have the ability to communicate your clinical assessments and decisions. We attach great importance to personal suitability and cooperation.

For consultant, the holder is required to meet the Akademiska sjukhuset merit requirements for a senior medical service
