The arena

The goals of the global R&D Information (RDI) organization are to enhance R&D productivity and decision making by improving the scientific and commercial information discoverability, accessibility and connectivity, regardless of source or format. This is done through partnering with IMED (Innovative Medicines & Early Development) and GMD (Global Medicines Development) teams and providing world-class expertise in Informatics and Scientific Information & Technology solutions to accelerate the drug pipeline. Focus is on developing the information platform and informatics tools to support drug project teams.

The Role

The role will be accountable for the technical design of solutions that meet business requirements in support of a given portfolio. The engineer will partner with project managers, business analysts, architects and other engineers to create solutions that are aligned to AstraZeneca architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet the financial targets (cost and benefits).

The role holder should deliver tangible and measurable value to the business, by taking a technical role in delivery of scientific IT solutions via programs/projects and/or services and develop our capabilities in the areas of application and infrastructure design, implementation and lifecycle management.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Build an understanding of business priorities and insight to current needs.
• Participates in the design, coding, testing and documentation of complex solutions. Leads these areas for smaller solutions.
• Participate in solution evaluation and selection decisions, buy vs. build decisions, and early-phase project estimates which contribute to the creation of business case.
• Designs and builds integration components and interfaces, and provides expert technical knowledge in the configuration of software, other system components and/or software products
• Ensure that technical implementations support both business and IT strategy, and that solutions delivered are compliant with relevant AstraZeneca architecture standards, blueprints and roadmaps.
• Participate in technical development efforts originating from portfolio, participate in IS/IT initiatives.
• Participate in the development of architecture and engineering standards and roadmaps.
• Contribute to guidance for better planning and decision making in programs/projects and services.
• Use specific knowledge and understanding of the business area direction and priorities to drive innovative solutions to issues and challenges faced by the customer area.
• Contribute to the capabilities (methods, processes, best practices etc.) in at least one of the Architecture, System engineering or Technical engineering capabilities.
