The challenge: Would you like the opportunity to take the technical lead in high-level projects focused on Embedded Systems - on a global arena? As Senior System Designer at Corporate Research within ABB you will shoulder full responsibility from requirement specification to a finished prototype of state of the art technology. You will work in a stimulating environment where you interact with experts, line managers, project managers, sponsors and customers alike. As Senior System Designer you will be an expert in-house consultant for ABB's business units, focusing on evaluating and improving current solutions and products. This involves running technology pre-studies to provide our various business units with sound data for decision-making, as well as driving technology development projects to provide them with technical solutions for inclusion in future products. Part of the challenge will be to actively listen to our stakeholders' values, concerns and goals. However, you will also create technology roadmaps and scan for opportunities to differentiate, and make assertions about technology directions as well as determine their consequences for the technical strategy - and hence the architectural approach. With us you will get to work in a global environment with an extensive network and collaboration with colleagues both within and outside of global ABB.
The requirements: You have a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar. In addition you have work experience from the industry e.g. as Technical Project Manager or Technical Lead. Further, you have a solid technical background in Communication Theory, and preferably you master the following fields: Embedded Real-Time Systems, specially System and Platform Design, UML and Model-driven Development and HW/SW Co-Design. An excellent command of English is a prerequisite for your success with us. As a person you have a strong inner drive and you get the work done. You have an innate interest in methodology and development processes. You need to be able to easily interact and cooperate with people on various levels and with different backgrounds. Another important quality of yours is the ability to analyse and solve problems and maintain up-to-date knowledge on relevant technology developments.
You will be a part of ABB Corporate Research in Västerås. We are a global organization, part of the groups' central functions. In our research projects we often face the challenge of analysing, evaluating, and reengineering existing embedded software architecture within the business units of ABB. During these projects we carry out pre-development tasks that usually end up as proof-of-concept solutions. Working closely with the business units our mission is to look for possible synergies, and provide technology transfer across all of ABB. In our projects we usually monitor, identify, and leverage on existing technologies, to provide solutions to the problem at hand. These solutions can be implemented stepwise or with disruptive innovation
