Simulation Expert - Virtual Manufacturing Engineering Paint

The Simulation Expert role is within Virtual Manufacturing Engineering Paint which is a group of 4 persons. The group belongs to the section Volvo Car Manufacturing Engineering. The role is involved in all car programs from early project phases through the life cycle of both the product and manufacturing facilities. The simulation expert works very closely together with the Manufacturing Engineers Paint and Equipment Engineers as well as specific Plant Launch Team members when preparing and introducing robot programs (sealing & painting application) for the introduction of new car models in Paint shop.

As a Simulation Expert you will be involved in geometrical virtual analysis of existing and new car programs in the manufacturing system "Digital Plant". Advanced simulations tools are used by the Simulation Expert and it has progressed to the point where most of the design (product/manufacturing) verification is done using computer simulations rather than physical prototype testing i.e. front loading. The role is a major provider of information to support engineering teams in decision making. The simulation expert analyses the robustness and performance of equipment and assemblies. The work encompass simulation, validation and optimisation of products and manufacturing systems. The role is an enabler to reduce product development cost and time while improving feasibility, QCDISME-performance in production and flawless launches.

Main responsibilities

• Provide virtual analyses and verifications for decisions regarding manufacturing system design
• Secure process driven product development throughout the life cycle of the development process within Volvo Car Group
• Support the verification of product and process through virtual and physical events and development phases
• Assure that the quality of the 'Digital Plant' is a sufficiently, correct and reliable representation of the physical reality in the plants over time
• Offline preparation and programming (robot program and virtual models) of robot stations including testing and optimisation on site
• Secure standardisation and commonality between plants within the area
• Provide assistance, as required, to Industrial Engineering activities in the resolution of technical and quality problems, and the development of related new or improved existing manufacturing processes and techniques
• Participate in project purchasing matters and follow-up line-builders regarding off-line robot programming

Required qualifications

• Master of Science in engineering or equivalent
• Knowledge and experience of robots and robot programming
• Experience of implementation of automatisation equipment in a project context
• Extensive knowledge and experience of robots and robot programming
• Deep knowledge and experience of Virtual Manufacturing analysis
• Knowledge and experience on CAD & CAE tools
• Fluent in English and Swedish, written and spoken
• Extensive knowledge and experience of the manufacturing processes within Paint Shop is meritorious
• Expert on Virtual Manufacturing simulation methodology and on opportunities/limitations of the method is an asset
