Simulation Engineer Durability Battery
Ready to make electrifying connections and design sustainable transportation solutions for the future? Join the Volvo Group Technology team and be part of our global mission to engineer exciting next-gen technologies. Bring your love of design engineering and advanced skills to a place where you can truly make an impact. We value collaboration and want you to be part of our evolution as we strengthen our team. Join us in leaving society in good shape for the next generation.
We belong to the Energy Storage System (ESS) section, part of the Volvo Groups' electromobility division. As we are the main group for mechanical simulations within ESS development, we need to manage simulation of many different parts and systems. This means we do multiple types of calculations, such as modal analysis, maximum load capacity estimations, fatigue evaluation of the complete battery system under road induced vibrations and component evaluation under shake table testing, production and assembly process simulations, and battery related special load evaluation such as cell swelling action and coupled thermo-mechanical calculations.
Our group: Structural and Thermal Analysis, consist today of 6 simulation engineers within durability, crash and thermal and 2 Attribute Leaders for durability. The overall mission for our durability simulation engineers is to support the product development of the ESS with high quality simulations which drive design from durability and attribute perspective. Our Attribute Leaders are responsible for the durability requirements and therefore work in close co-operation with our durability simulation engineers to improve the final design of our products.
We are happy to say that we're looking for a new team member in the area of durability simulations in order to strengthen our ability to meet the future needs. In our development of ESS, we want to create engineering excellence through simulation, and you'll be a key person in our development team.

Responsibilities:
Perform structural FE simulations on ESS systems and subsystems, focusing on strength and fatigue caused by road-induced vibrations and other battery related loadcases.

Lead durability FE simulations to evaluate the strength and fatigue of battery modules, packs, and systems.
Initiate physical tests, analyze results, and validate simulation methods.

Correlate simulation models with physical tests and present findings to stakeholders.

Coordinate internal and external work with other departments and suppliers.

Create technical documentation and reports to document methods and analysis.

Requirements:
Deep knowledge and experience in structural FE simulations using tools like Nastran or Abaqus.

Familiarity with fatigue evaluation under dynamic loads using tools like Ncode or equivalent.

Proficiency in pre- and post-processing tools like Ansa and Meta.

Battery experience and understanding of battery technology.

Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
Effective communication and presentation abilities.

Master's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.

Minimum of 5 years of work experience with durability simulations in an industry setting.

Familiarity with scripting tools like Python and Matlab.

Fluent in spoken and written English.

At Volvo Group, we believe in diversity, equity, and inclusion, creating a safe environment where everyone can thrive. Your open mind and can-do attitude will help us steer transportation solutions towards a more sustainable tomorrow.
About Volvo Group: Every day, our trucks, buses, engineers, construction equipment, and financial services make modern life possible across the globe. We are committed to caring about others and the world we live in. Join us in shaping the future of efficient and sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions, making modern life possible.
About the Energy Storage Systems Department (ESS): We strive to develop world-class batteries for various applications within the Volvo Group. Our goal is to deliver the most competitive ESS on the market, taking responsibility for the battery's entire lifecycle, from advanced engineering to manufacturing and maintenance.
Welcome to our global, multicultural team at CampX in Gothenburg. It's a place designed for idea-swapping collaborations, creative collisions, and inspirational deep work. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
