Simulation Engineer - Body in White

Commodity Body Structure is a section within Manufacturing Engineering. We develop and implement quality assured, flexible and effective production systems in the Body in White plants. The section is divided into three groups, Underbody, Upperbody & Hang on Parts. The three groups are working cross functionally & project oriented, supporting all Volvo Car Group Plants and Projects globally. Within Upperbody, we are now looking for a new Simulation Engineer.

As a Simulation Engineer - Body in White you will be working during the complete Car program, from early phase to implementation in the plant. You will be a part of a commodity Engineering team and will contribute to prepare and implement product and manufacturing processes (manual and automated). You will perform analysis of alternative manufacturing scenarios by different types of simulation models. You will answer questions from station to factory level in order to fulfil the manufacturing attributes (quality, man hours, cost efficiency, environment, flexibility, and change over). Advanced simulation tools are used and it has progressed to the point where most of the design verification is done using computer simulations rather than physical prototypes. The role is a major provider of information to support engineering teams in decision making.

Main responsibilities

• Perform virtual analyses and verifications for decisions regarding alternative manufacturing scenarios globally through all development and commissioning phases of new products
• Carry out virtual analysis in fields ranging from station to factory level
• Quality assurance of virtual models and off-line programming activities from line builder
• Take part in complete Car virtual verification and checkpoint reviews (Virtual Build Events)
• Secure standardisation and commonality by fulfilment of instructions, demands and technical specifications globally within field of activities
• Maintain and secure virtual models over time
• Off-line preparations of robot programs and follow up of downloaded robot programs
• Develop and maintain virtual methods in cooperation with Method & IT
• Motivate and advocate virtual analysis within Volvo Car Group

Required qualifications

• M.Sc. in Control and Mechatronics with emphasis in Robotics or corresponding professional experience
• Industrial or academic experience in CAE or robotic simulation tools, Off-line preparation and programming of robot stations
• Experience working with 3D manufacturing IT tools
• Good practical or theoretical knowledge about product and manufacturing development process
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Driver's licence B
• Knowledge in Teamcenter is meritorious
• Knowledge in Process Simulate, Process Design, Plant Simulation and Robot Studio is meritorious
