The British Embassy in Sweden is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking to recruit a Senior Trade Adviser to join the Department of International Trade (DIT) in Stockholm.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT Europe works to help UK-based businesses export to the EU and to encourage the best European businesses to invest in the UK. This is an exciting time to join DIT, as you will have the opportunity to shape the UK's international trade agenda and foster UK growth.

How can you contribute?
You will provide strategic direction for trade development for UK companies in the tech sector. This is achieved via undertaking research, developing local networks to uncover opportunities and creating platforms for UK companies in Sweden. Ultimately matching Swedish demand with UK supply. The position also involves wider European work, market access and trade policy activity. In addition, there will also be sector horizon scanning and reactive work that falls outside of core work. This role will suit someone with at least 3-5 years of trade experience.

What you will be expected to achieve?
• Identify Swedish high value opportunities within the tech sector through research and engaging with local contacts, stakeholders, organisations etc.
• Develop a range of activities to match the needs of the market with UK expertise. Assist companies to win business in market;
• Facilitate trade where market opportunities exist to deliver on targets. Monitor market access issues and potential barriers to trade. Working with market access team help companies understand and navigate the new trading landscape post EU Exit. Support wider trade policy areas for Sweden (related to sector responsibility);
• Full key account management, including some routine administration and follow up throughout the process;

• Understand the UK offer by building networks as well as with HQ and regional colleagues. Produce business cases to support sector work, author briefs for VIP visits and other governmental communication;

• Identify leads and opportunities for British business and deliver a range of services to support the delivery of DIT country plan. Contribute to the wider DIT activity and Embassy team in Sweden;

• Horizon scan for new opportunities outside of the main sector.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
• Fluent Swedish and English language skills (C1 level or above under the CEFR*);
• University degree, Business/Economics or applicable subject;
• At least 3-5 years' trade experience;
• International business development experience, preferably in a similar role;
• Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities;
• Work independently and as part of a team;
• Strong knowledge of the Swedish business environment;
• Agility and be able to think creatively;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
• Knowledge of the UK and UK business environment;
• Tech sector experience would be a plus, not mandatory (Fintech, Ed-tech, Cyber Security and upcoming sectors such as Gaming or Quantum computing;

This is a full time (40 hours per week), permanent position. The preliminary start date 1 April 2022.
