You will be a key member in a highly dedicated and competent cross-functional team. The product you will be working with offers algorithms that enable our newsrooms to optimize the content offering on their front pages through automation and personalization. The goal is to deliver front pages that give the users the most important news and that are also highly engaging!
About the role
The team is responsible for rankers as well as some of the tools used by the editorial staff in Schibsted's media houses. Based on collected data and through data processing the rankers aim to provide the most optimal order of the content shown on the front pages. Your primary responsibility will be to develop these rankers together with the product manager, engineering team and in collaboration with the Data Scientists working in the media houses.
The tech stack you will be working with consists mainly of applications for processing data (Kafka), written in modern Java (17) as well as TypeScript Node.js APIs. Most of our systems run on AWS (ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, SNS, SQS). The team is responsible for its products end-to-end.
About you
- You have at least 5 years previous experience of working as a developer or software engineer.
- You are comfortable in a fullstack team and in an environment where the team also owns the infrastructure.
- You are not afraid to take initiative. We expect you to be able to work autonomously.
- You are a team player. You understand it's essential to our success that we are transparent and share knowledge and progress with each other.
Any interest or experience in Kafka Streams or Flink, Machine Learning, solving Data Preprocessing challenges and previous cloud experience are welcomed but not required.
We also welcome any interest or experience in creating tailored personal experiences in mass distribution environments.
Place of work: You can choose to work remotely or from our office in either Stockholm or Oslo.

Product & Tech is responsible for product development and technology platforms for News Media brands. The unit consists of product managers, software engineers, UX experts, and user researchers. Most of our teams work distributed, with colleagues in Oslo, Stockholm, Krakow, Gdansk, Bergen, and Stavanger.
