As a Senior Scientist, Pathology you will play a pivotal role in delivering high quality histopathology data employing necropsy, section preparation and molecular techniques, involving immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation method development and antibody characterisation. You will be responsible for the delivery of the histology phase of early investigative in vivo safety studies, involving working with group head, pathologists and study directors to deliver data to required timelines. Contributions to the analysis and reporting of data to project teams and pathologists is also a key part of the role. In partnership with the pathologist, uses data to develop follow-on hypotheses and appropriate study designs to meet team objectives.
Main Duties
As a Senior Scientist, Pathology you will contribute to the plans and designs of histological and molecular pathology studies and provide general and hypothesis-driven scientific advice on specific topics to the team. You will have a strong understanding of the practices, principles and concepts associated with reviewing, planning, conducting, validating, reporting and outsourcing a variety of studies using histological and molecular pathology techniques and/or other types protein and gene expression analysis as required.
You will analyse data, with little or no guidance, in a clear and concise manner, with a clear understanding of its implications within the overall context of drug development and reports either verbally or in written format to stakeholders. You will provide expertise in recognising anomalies in data and equipment use, and incorporate refinements or carry out investigations as appropriate. You will take responsibility for carrying out specialised roles and responsibilities within the department that require a detailed understanding of departmental working practices.
You will maintain a knowledge internally and externally of new trends in molecular pathology study design, experimental techniques and specialised equipment by reading articles, collaborating with peer scientists or through contacts by other internal groups and introduce new methods and equipment with as required and agreed with the Pathology Leadership Team.
You will manage your work to ensure that agreed targets are met to agreed timelines and quality standards, communicating progress appropriately. You will contribute to the objectives of the department through active participation in department and cross-functional project teams/meetings, ensuring that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards.
Essential Requirements:
* PhD or Graduate (cell biology, molecular biology, biotechnology etc.) with strong experience in relevant role
* Expert knowledge in at least one of the following: immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation
* Experience in image analysis using a variety of commercial software solutions
* Comprehensive core knowledge of necropsy and histology techniques
* Problem-solving skills related to molecular pathology data analysis
* Understanding of quality management systems
* Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work within a team environment - support for colleagues
Desirable Requirements:
* Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or hospital molecular pathology laboratory
* Understanding of other disciplines within pharmaceutical R&D
* Ability to work with pathologists and other scientists to deliver what is needed on time and to the required standards.
* Leadership skills within small teams and on individual projects
