Do you have expertise in in vitro biology within the Heart Failure and Cardiovascular disease area and enjoy working in the lab? Would you like to apply your expertise in a company where we are following the science and turn ideas into life changing medicines? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist, in vitro biology with focus on heart failure and cardiovascular disease to join the heart failure in vitro team within the Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) therapeutic area at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Business area CVRM IMED: CVRM is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED), AstraZeneca's Biotech unit that deliver candidate drugs into clinical development. AstraZeneca has a patient-centric approach for discovering novel treatments for patients with metabolic disease, chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease and the three areas are integrated into one unit - CVRM IMED. At the Bioscience Heart failure department we focus on identifying and validating new drug targets for patients with cardiovascular disease and heart failure. The team delivers key data to projects across all phases of the drug discovery and development and we work with different modalities such as small molecules, modified mRNA, antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and peptides.

The Role: As a Senior Scientist in the Heart Failure in vitro team, you will play a key role in progressing science and projects. This role is primarily lab-based and you will explore novel drug targets and support existing projects with key in vitro and ex vivo data. You will also develop new in vitro assays and models for heart failure to support the projects and the heart failure strategy. Collaboration is critical for successful delivery of drug projects and you will work closely with scientists/teams from a wide range of different functions within AstraZeneca as well as with external partners and collaborators. You will work with in vitro biology using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and primary cardiovascular cells along with molecular biology techniques and high content imaging. In this role, you will have the opportunity to try novel techniques and ideas required for progressing existing portfolio and novel science.
