Pharmaceutical Development is accountable for delivering the design and innovative, efficient and robust processes for the manufacture of drug product and drug substance, the supply of product for toxicological and clinical trials and the generation of information and knowledge to ensure regulatory approval of our products.
AstraZeneca has a long-standing reputation as being a leader in the area of inhaled medicines. The inhalation area will move in 2011 to the R&D facility in Mölndal, outside Gothenburg, as part of the new R&D strategy. We are committed to establish inhalation as World Class Area in AstraZeneca R&D in Mölndal and the positions described below are a part of this investment.
The role:
Two opportunities as Senior Scientist are now available at the department of Formulation Science directed towards work with inhaled formulations. The role holder will contribute to the Formulation Science function in Medicines Development by applying their technical expertise to specific aspects of the following:
Designing drug products and commercially viable drug product manufacturing processes
Technology Transfer of drug product manufacturing processes
Identifying Life Cycle Management Product Opportunities
Exploitation and development of cutting edge drug delivery technologies
Provision of Formulation Science expertise in the delivery of Technical Stewardship
Collaboratively help to design, develop and implement global best practice in formulation science
You will:
Lead internal and external project work and other improvement activities
Assess, record and report data. Draw authoritative conclusions and make recommendations
Engage customers in development of solutions by applying a broader perspective.
Prepare documentation and formal reports in accordance with current standards
Apply technical knowledge to improvement projects and the evaluation of new technology/processes.
Collaboration with specialist scientific and/or technology networks within Pharmaceutical Development.
May supervise co-workers and contribute to their training and development by acting as coach/mentor,
Will work as a member of cross-functional teams, with a large degree of independence
Will actively support on-going management of change
All these activities will have a significant impact on the speed, quality and cost of the AZ development portfolio, the overall success of the Medicines Development as well as ensuring the commercial viability of the medicine.
Requirements:
Likely to be a PhD or an experienced graduate in pharmacy, chemistry or equivalent
Likely to have considerable experience of working with inhaled formulations
Skills and Capabilities:
Evidence of good communication skills
Good team working and networking skills.
Ability to coach other scientists.
Able to demonstrate the drive and energy to deliver projects.
Demonstrate a high degree of personal credibility.
Works collaboratively.
