Do you have expertise in, and passion for, Computational Chemistry and Machine Learning? Would you like to join a world leading team that push the boundaries of science and technology to deliver life-changing medicines? Then you may be the one we are looking for!

AstraZeneca is now recruiting a Senior Scientist with expertise in Computational Chemistry and Machine Learning to join the Medicinal Chemistry Department within the Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) therapeutic area. The position is placed at AstraZenecas vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

CVRM is one of AstraZeneca 's core therapy areas. We follow the science and turn ideas into life changing medicines for patients suffering from Heart Failure, Diabetes or Chronic Kidney Disease. To realize our ambitions, we stay agnostic to molecular modality. The Medicinal Chemistry Department within CVRM is a critical player in the discovery and design of our drug molecules and in identifying and validating novel biological targets.

The role

We are now expanding our Computational Chemistry team with Machine Learning expertise to augment our use of in silico methods for drug design, property predictions and data analysis supporting the CVRM drug discovery projects. The team operates in a highly cross disciplinary environment in close collaboration with scientists from the Chemistry, Bioscience, DMPK and Pharmaceutical Sciences departments.

In this role, you need to have strong programming skills and solid understanding of Machine Learning approaches. You will use your knowledge in Data Science methodologies and apply them to solve challenging drug discovery problems. You will work in a highly collaborative environment where you communicate and plan tasks and ideas. Your scientific experience combined with your high ambitions and enthusiasm gives you a great opportunity to be part of building AstraZeneca's future Augmented Drug Discovery environment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

* Simultaneously impact multiple discovery projects by efficiently and pro-actively applying a wide variety of computer-aided drug design approaches assisted by Machine Learning

* The candidate will be expected to plan, write and publish high quality scientific papers

Essential Requirements

We are looking for a future drug hunter that is passionate for machine learning and would like to join our fast-pace multidisciplinary CVRM computational chemistry team! You have a PhD, or equivalent, in chemistry, computer science, statistics or other life sciences disciplines. A basic knowledge level in chemistry from University courses will be a minimum requirement. You are expected to have a high degree of independence.

* Expertise in one or more of the core machine learning areas such as: ANNs, SVMs, Bayesian approaches, Markov models, Gaussian processes, reinforcement learning, deep neural networks, game theory, decision theory, probabilistic rule-based learning.
* Expertise in using and improving computational softwares as well as knowledge in scientific computing, and programming skills (e.g. Python, C++, Java).
