We are now looking to recruit an In Vivo Scientist with experience in pre-clinical inhalation and ideally also imaging techniques with a drive for innovation and idea generation as well as excellent laboratory skills to join the Bioscience In Vivo Department within the Early Respiratory & Immunology. The role is located at our vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Respiratory & Immunology is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory and autoimmune diseases with significant unmet medical need.



The successful candidate will join a highly motivated team that works closely together with other departments focusing on Target Translational Science, Bioscience In vitro assays and Drug Metabolism/Pharmacokinetics to support discovery projects and to drive new exciting research. What you will do
As a Senior Scientist, Inhalation & Imaging you are a vital member of the in vivo team and will contribute to the progress of our drug discovery projects. You will drive science and develop valuable solutions for respiratory diseases and provide scientific and technical inhaled drug delivery expertise.



This is mainly a lab-based role. You will be actively involved in the design, planning and execution of experiments with responsibility to coordinate, perform and analyze experiments as well as maintaining and developing models of aerosol delivery. You will independently assess and report data with a clear understanding of its reliability, interpretation of findings and draw appropriate conclusions.

We are looking for a team player with a strong background and hands-on experience in various rodent aerosol generation and delivery platform ideally complemented by experience in imaging techniques in rodents, a problem-solving attitude and knowledge in pre-clinical drug discovery.



Essential for the role
PhD in a relevant discipline (area of Bioscience) ideally complemented by a number of years working in a drug discovery environment with relevant responsibilities for this role
Experience in the operation and development of inhalation exposure systems (box inhalation, tower inhalation) including the characterization of test aerosols for reproducibility and particle size or strong interest in internal education in this field
Experience with rodent smoke exposure systems
Experience in preclinical MRI, CT, SPECT or optical imaging
Excellent hands-on in vivo skills and a valid education required for compliance to work with live animals in Sweden
Respiratory and/or immunology disease knowledge and basic understanding of PKPD relationships
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. You are organized and incorporate the views of others in your communication and collaboration
Experience of maintaining the highest standards of welfare and ethical compliance as well as ensuring the integrity of the data generated. Familiar with using Good Statistical Practice in animal research and applying the 3R's (reduction, refinement and replacement) across the full range of studies



Desirable for the role
Good knowledge in technical engineering and software/computer tools
Experience in various cellular and molecular biology techniques for the measurement of protein expression and activation (eg ELISA, Western Blot, FACS, Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) technology platform), and RNA (qRT-PCR, RNASeq)
Good written and oral communication skills in Swedish and experience in writing ethical applications for animal work in Sweden
