We're recruiting a talented and motivated Senior Biopharmaceutical Scientist to join the Early Product Development division within Pharmaceutical Science at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg.
Pharmaceutical Science is a global department within our Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. Our vision is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery. Our portfolio of projects include traditional small molecules to nucleotide based therapies and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca 's therapy areas. Within Early Product Development in Gothenburg, a sub-division of Pharmaceutical Sciences, we focus on delivering oral, inhalation and parenteral products for our drug projects. We have the responsibility to progress the candidate compounds from early preclinical phase up to Proof of Concept in humans. The biopharmaceutics expertise within AZ brings mechanistic understanding of absorption and predictions of the influence of the formulation on the delivery of a drug molecule to the body. AZ in Gothenburg has a strong position in the areas of inhalation, oral controlled and immediate release products and there is an increasing interest in advanced parenteral delivery including biological drug molecules.
In the role as a Senior Biopharmaceutical Scientist you will be part of a diverse and multi competent team responsible for project and scientific deliveries. You will work closely together with biopharmaceutical experts within the area as well as a wider network including other functions (eg DMPK, clinic, safety) where you will obtain and provide scientific knowledge to drug projects with the overall aim to assess drug substance and formulation properties and suitability for further development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Biopharmaceutical Scientist within Pharmaceutical Sciences you are anticipated to assess the biopharmaceutic risk carried by drug candidates and to define the biopharmaceutics testing strategy as well as to make significant contribution to the product design in product development projects. The work includes to plan, perform, evaluate and report in silico (e.g. Gastroplus®) and in vitro tests (e.g. dissolution, permeability), or in vivo studies in collaboration with experts from other areas (e.g. Clinical Pharmacology, DMPK). Examples include:
* Provide predictions of clinical performance of oral products based on in vitro as well as in vivo data using mechanistic in silico models
* Support design of clinical studies and clinical trial materials based on expert knowledge on clinical trial material performance
* Contribution to preclinical and clinical formulation development
The role also includes contribution to the biopharmaceutics scientific community/network within AstraZeneca in the provision of new science, technologies and best practice leading to better predictive biopharmaceutics tools and/or improved drug delivery. As a Senior Biopharmaceutical Scientist you are also expected to contribute to the scientific reputation of Pharmaceutical Sciences by presenting work at conferences and articles in scientific journals or through publication of patents.
Essential Requirements
* M.Sc. or PhD in a biopharmaceutically relevant field (eg drug absorption/delivery, PBPK modelling) or equivalent industrial experience or track record
* A scientific expert in his/her area and be passionate about continued development of the expertise in the areas of biopharmaceutics, preclinical/clinical formulation and drug delivery.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Excellent English, both oral and written
