At AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us in the Applied Stem Cell Sciences team within the Translational Genomics function, working lab-based as our new Senior Research Scientist. You will be a key player in developing stem cell models for target discovery and validation.

We are part of the broader Discovery Sciences organisation and in this role, you will be working alongside our stem cell scientists, disease area specialists and genome editing group. What you will do:
Using your knowledge and experience in stem cell biology and cell model development, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects where you contribute to the generation of target validation data. This includes culture and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and target cell types at scale as well as development and optimization of assays.

The role is focused on laboratory-based activities. Your biggest impact will be through significant contributions to the practical delivery to projects and your performance in in vitro studies to investigate the effects of CRISPR-based gene editing on gene and protein expression, and cellular readouts.

Additional Responsibilities:

* Culture and differentiation of human iPSC lines to target cell types preferentially including kidney, lung, and neuronal cells. Experience with large-scale differentiation platforms is preferred.
* Culture of human primary cells and various mammalian cell lines.
* Perform molecular biology protocols in support of in-house quantitative PCR, digital PCR and NGS assays.

Essential in the role:

* MSc/PhD degree with proven experience in Developmental Biology or Cell Biology.
* Experience with the culture of multiple mammalian cell types including primary cells.
* Hands-on experience with the following assay platforms: RT-qPCR, ELISA, Western blots, Flow cytometry and/or cell- based functional/ potency assays.

You should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem-solving attitude. Good organizational, data and documentation skills are required, and you should be comfortable in presenting your results.

Desirable in the role:

* Expertise with liquid handling automation technologies.
* Practiced skills with microscopy techniques.
* Experience of setting up cell based pharmacological assays.
