Would you like to apply your expertise in Oligonucleotide Bioanalysis in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life changing medicines? Then AstraZeneca might be the right place for you!

We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist, a highly motivated expert in the bioanalysis of oligonucleotides to join the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department within the Early Respiratory and Immunology (Early R&I) therapeutic area.

You will be part of the In Vitro and In Vivo Science team where non routine in vitro and in vivo studies are conducted. In this team all bioanalysis and biotransformation of drugs and metabolites are performed using state of the art LCMS instruments. The position is placed at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

What you'll do
This laboratory based scientific role includes developing methods and delivering high quality data and data interpretation to our oligonucleotide projects. As an expert in bioanalysis of oligonucleotides you will provide bioanalytical input, develop innovative solutions and apply your expertise in support of drug project strategy. With your solid hands-on LC-MSMS analysis experience, you are expected to develop and implement novel approaches and provide significant input to drug project decision making. A close collaboration with the DMPK preclinical lead is essential.

You will conduct analyses of biological samples including different tissues as well as a variety of biological fluids, and the data you generate will be used to build understanding of Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic (PKPD) relationships on our projects. As such, the role involves interacting with other team members in multidisciplinary teams and so effective communication to provide clear data and guidance is essential.

You will contribute to the discovery of new life changing medicines for patients and demonstrate what science can do!

Essential for the role
• PhD in analytical chemistry, chemistry, or other relevant area or MSc with equivalent experience
• In-depth experience of quantitative LC-MSMS including hands-on competence of analysis of oligonucleotide-based drugs
• Technical skills to operate, perform regular maintenance and elementary trouble shooting of LC-MSMS instruments
• Excellent skills in sample preparation of biofluids and tissues for quantification of oligonucleotide-based molecules
• Interest in driving science of relevant areas, making scientific and equipment investment proposals
• Experiences in writing scientific manuscripts and publish research
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent English, both verbal and written
• Ability to engage and collaborate across boundaries with a problem-solving attitude and focus on delivery

Desirable for the role
• Basic understanding of DMPK
• Analytical experience of other modalities, such as small molecules, peptides, and endogenous compounds
• Basic understanding of drug biotransformation and metabolism
