We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist in vivo to join the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department within Early Respiratory & Immunology (Early R&I). This position is placed at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, one of AstraZeneca's three strategic science
centers.
You will be part of the multiskilled In Vitro and In Vivo Science team where non-routine in vitro and in vivo studies are performed to support specific issues in our drug project. The remit of the team is also to conduct bioanalysis and metabolite investigations from various studies.
What you'll do
As a Senior Scientist in vivo, you will be responsible for delivering in vivo experiments of high quality in relevant species to support PKPD (Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics) related questions in our drug projects from target selection to LCM (life cycle management). You will work in a team to plan and design studies where PK parameters can be calculated from drug concentrations in blood and tissues and time points.
Typical accountabilities in your daily work:
• As an in vivo scientist you will be responsible for design, conduct, interpretation and reporting of in vivo ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion) studies
• You will apply various administration and sampling techniques in different tissues and species to guide drug projects in decision making and progress
• You will recommend, initiate and lead new innovations that ensure cutting-edge DMPK science is applied to support projects
• You will initiate new collaboration within AstraZeneca as well as with external partners to drive in vivo PK science into the future
Essential for the role
• PhD or MSc degree in biology, animal science, pharmacokinetics or equivalent experience in a relevant field
• Broad experience of different administration and sampling techniques including tissue harvesting from different species
• Broad knowledge about ADME processes and relevant in vivo models of drug disposition, and track record in development, characterization and application of translatable in vivo models
• Excellent interpersonal skills that lead to successful collaborative working relationships and ability to work in cross-functional teams on a day to day basis as well as independently
• Strong customer and delivery focus with good communication skills in English, both verbal and in writings
