Are you an experienced Senior Scientist with a background in molecular biology and great knowledge of working with mRNA transcripts? Do you also enjoy working in the lab on exciting projects with cross-functional collaboration and team work? If yes, we have an opening for you!

We are recruiting for a passionate Senior Scientist to join our Mechanistic and Structural Biology department within the Discovery Sciences organization in Gothenburg, Sweden. One of our remits is to provide detailed mechanism of action data to drug discovery projects. We continually push the boundaries of science to deliver medicines that treat diseases across our main therapy areas. Through our integration with Alexion, this now includes expanding the limits of scientific research to better understand rare diseases and to discover new life-changing treatments for them.

Thrive in a place where the brightest and most curious minds seamlessly come together in our inclusive environment.

What you'll do:
This is a lab-based role focused on generating in vitro pharmacology data in support of drug discovery projects. The work includes independent troubleshooting and timely reporting of data according to agreed timelines. All work is conducted in dialog with project teams, where you are expected to present and contribute in advancing the project science. The role reflects our on-going build of a platform for discovery and development of therapeutic oligonucleotides. You will apply proven molecular biology and cell biology expertise to in vitro cellular assays. Routine profiling is integrated with tailored mechanism of action studies in cellular models to build a detailed understanding of the impact of treatment by therapeutic oligonucleotides, such as splice-switching antisense oligonucleotides (SSOs) and antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs).

Essential in the role:

* Ph.D. or a first degree and at least 4 years' experience within a relevant scientific discipline.
* Extensive experience in the development and application of assays for quantitative measurements of mRNA transcripts in microplate format.
* Experience with the use of multiple qPCR assay formats, including molecular biology skill sets for optimal design of PCR primers.
* Demonstrated expertise in assessing mRNA transcript turnover, preferably using multiple techniques such as metabolic labeling.

To be successful in this role you should be able to combine your communication and team-working skills with a passion for scientific excellence, delivery and innovation. You enjoy working in a global, cross-functional setting in a proactive, forward-thinking, project-focused and goal-oriented way. Ability in providing technical leadership and guidance to others is seen as a great plus.

Desirable in the role

* Track record of identifying and adopting scientific and technical advances.
* A proven publication track-record from several labs, such as a postdoctoral experience, in a relevant area.
* Previous experience working with siRNA and/or ASO knockdowns.
* Good understanding of mRNA splicing and how this affects translation to protein.
* Experience with multiplexing towards 5-10 transcripts is considered meriting.
