Respiratory is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification.

From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory disease with an emphasis on four diseases with significant unmet medical need; asthma, COPD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Chronic Cough.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking to hire innovative and highly motivated Senior Scientists to join our Bioscience Department. As a successful candidate, you are a lab-based bioscientist, comfortable and skilled in designing and developing experimental strategies. In this role, you will contribute to the progression of drug discovery projects and identification of new targets as well as publishing scientific insights.

In order to develop solutions, you will apply a broad perspective and actively engage with others. To do so, it is essential that your communication with others is engaging and inspiring as well as respectful.

Accountabilities and responsibilities:

* Drive discovery research activities to build the scientific knowledge in respiratory diseases
* Generate data and hypothesis to secure project deliveries to define milestones and timelines
* Identify new biological pathways and drive the development of human respiratory diseases
* Act as an effective and innovative team member in supporting drug discovery projects to meet their objectives
* Contribute in peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and patents
* Participate in external collaborations
* Mentor Postdocs and more junior colleagues

Essential Requirements

* PhD in a relevant area
* Broad experience of modern immunological methods in vitro (immunoprecipitation, multi-color confocal microscopy, NGS and data analysis, proteomics/WB)
* Excellent scientific laboratory skills and an understanding of respiratory diseases, basic pharmacology and biochemistry to support departmental remit
* Thorough understanding and practical experience in designing, performing and evaluating in vitro experiments
* Great Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Desirable requirements

* Postdoctoral training
* A strong record of high quality publications as well as experience in presenting research in international scientific communities
* Experience in pharmaceutical R&D
