The Department of Geosciences at the Swedish Museum of Natural History (NRM), Stockholm, invites applications for a full time position as senior researcher and laboratory manager of the Vegacenter national laboratory for LA-ICPMS. The Vegacenter is part of a larger national research infrastructure together with the NordSIMS ion microprobe facility, also hosted at NRM.
The Swedish Museum of Natural History has a large and active research division, hosting modern laboratories including advanced equipment and infrastructure for isotope and chemical analysis (http://www.nrm.se/en/forskningochsamlingar/geovetenskap.9000582.html). The Department also curates one of the major mineral collections in Europe.


WORK TASKS
The successful applicant will be expected to manage the Vegacenter laboratory, which hosts a MC-ICPMS, HR-ICPMS, two laser ablation systems and a gas chromatograph. The manager is responsible for daily operation, method development, finances, and management of laboratory staff. He/she will build and maintain good working relationships with users and instrument vendors. Other tasks include reporting to the Steering Committee and ensuring continued funding for the lab.

The applicant will also conduct both independent and collaborative research in the field of isotope geochemistry, obtain external funding, present results at international meetings and publish in leading journals. Additional tasks include recruiting and supervising PhD-students, hosting and instructing visiting researchers, performing public outreach activities, and participating in the strategic work and management of the department.


QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Geoscience or related field, and have extensive experience with managing a MC-ICP-MS laboratory with laser ablation. A record of innovative ICP-MS method development, experience with clean laboratory/TIMS or GC, and a record of infrastructure funding are meriting.

A strong publication record and a documented skill in attracting external funding are considered advantageous, as are experience with supervising students & postdocs, teaching experience and outreach experience. Good social and communication skills (in English) are required.

Important personal characteristics are to be structured and result driven. The applicant must also have excellent collaboration skills, take responsibility and be stress resistant.
