Position

The RISE division in Västerås is looking for a full-time senior professional in mathematical modelling and optimization to work on applied research and/or consultancy project with close collaboration with the Swedish industry, helping it move towards digitalization, automation, and industry 4.0 practices.

The candidate is expected to create innovative ideas, attend networking and brokerage events to build European consortia, work on writing project proposals to attract funding, and carry out technical or managerial tasks throughout the project life cycle.


Background

Our office in Västerås consists of a flexible group of researchers working in various fields like: embedded systems, the future of internet and services, industrial efficiency, optimization, systems and software engineering, energy, and innovation. Our diverse group allows to attract new industries and always brings novel ideas to the existing large organizations, helping them renovate their products and services. We maintain strong relationships with the key players in Mälardalen like ABB and Bombardier, and with the smaller companies as well in Västerås, Eskilstuna, and Stockholm.

The optimization group focuses on applying and developing operations research techniques to real-world problems facing the Swedish industry. Examples include: rail, production, inventory, healthcare, discrete manufacturing, and process industry. The mindset is to build long-term partnership with the industry and become a national reference point for automation and digitalization.


Qualifications

We are looking for a senior professional (10+ years) with a proven track record in developing and applying mathematical models and algorithms to manufacturing and transportation problems, under stochastic conditions, both at the research and industry levels. The candidate should have a background in operations research, or a related field, and has completed a post-doctorate position at well know institution.

The position requires the following technical skills:


1 Mathematical modeling and algorithm design under stochastic conditions, with a strong command in optimization solvers like CPLEX, GUROBI, Express, etc. Knowledge in nonlinear optimization is a plus.
2 Simulation modelling and blackbox optimization, with a strong command in simulation software like Arena, AnyLogic, Simul8, etc.
3 Statistical modeling, forecasting, time series analysis with strong command in statistical software and packages like Minitab, SPSS, or R.
4 A good understanding of artificial intelligence methods and algorithms.
5 Programming with low and high level languages (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, R, Matlab).
6 Ability to publish in conferences and journals.

The position requires the following managerial skills:


1 Project management from planning to closure.
2 Proposal writing and budgeting.
3 Networking and building teams across different European countries in both academia and industry.

Location and travel

The position is based in Västerås and the candidate is expected to be able to travel up to 25% of their time.


Start date and contract duration

Permanent contract starting 12-December-2018.
