hela Sverige Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) seeks a Senior Researcher and Director of Studies to lead its research theme on Peace and Development.
The post
SIPRI conducts research in three themes - Armament and Disarmament, Conflicts, Peace and Security, Peace and Development - each of which is headed by a Director of Studies (DoS), who is a member of the Institute's Senior Management Team. The Peace and Development theme explores the conditions conducive to sustainable development and positive peace, focusing on how policy and practice by governments, international organisations and other actors can contribute to creating the enabling conditions for a lasting peace. It contributes to both research and dialogue in order to inform policy and practice. The research addresses a broad range of topics with multidisciplinary analysis, applying a variety of social science methods. The purpose of the post of Director of Studies is to develop and implement the research strategy for the research theme, which aligns with Institute strategy, and ensure it is adequately resourced and appropriately staffed. The DoS maintains a balance between the demands of management, mentoring and continuing to be an active and leading researcher.

Ensure the Peace and Development research strategy and programme strategies are mutually supportive, well implemented, adequately resourced and appropriately staffed;
Keep the Senior Management Team up to date with developments and challenges;
Ensure all research staff working in the Peace and Development research theme receive management support and mentoring in line with the research strategy and Institute policy;
Guide the work of the programme coordinator in support of research theme activities;

Maintain a good pace and high quality of publications by the team and other forms of outreach of high quality - including events such as conferences, seminars and roundtables.
Contract period: Starting from as soon as possible. The appointment will be for two years initially with possible extension up to 6 years. The post is full-time and the successful applicant will be expected to reside in Stockholm, Sweden. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
