A better world needs more perspectives. This requires new knowledge and new technologies, and a strong force that brings them together. RISE, Sweden's independent research institute and innovation partner, is that gathering force. With excellence across disciplines, we deliver sustainable solutions and drive transformation in traditional and emerging sectors. We work closely with industry, academia, and society, and we know that solving complex problems is best when it's creative, challenging, and fun!
Now, we are building the Swedish AI Factory, MIMER, a European hub for AI adoption, research, and infrastructure. As part of this initiative, we are seeking an expert to take responsibility for the autonomous systems activities. This role is central to enabling AI-powered innovation in robotics, mobility, and smart industry, and to bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world impact. The position is placed within the department of Industrial Systems at RISE, where we develop technical and organizational solutions to drive innovation and applied research in industry.
Could this be your next challenge? Join us in Stockholm or Linköping. We follow a hybrid work model that allows employees to split their working time between the office and their home workspace.
About the position You will play a central role in shaping how AI is used to drive the development of autonomous systems in Swedish and European SMEs and industries. You will lead and plan the activities of one of the focus areas within the AI Factory MIMER, and design and execute activities that support companies and research groups in integrating AI into real-world applications in autonomous systems, with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation, and impact.
You will be responsible for engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders - from startups and SMEs to large enterprises and academic institutions - and ensuring that the services, tools, and training offered by the AI Factory meet their evolving needs. This includes managing projects, developing domain-specific AI toolkits, and facilitating access to high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. You will contribute to strategic outreach and ecosystem building efforts.
Who are you? We are looking for someone with deep technical expertise and a strong research interest in AI and autonomous systems. You have a PhD or equivalent experience in AI, mathematics, robotics, computer science, or similar. Futhermore, you have demonstrated experience in applied AI research or development, in the domain of autonomous systems. You also have demonstrated experience in leading research and development projects, with experience in coordinating diverse teams across different disciplines and organizations.
Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) and its role in large-scale AI model training and simulation is considered a merit. You may have worked in both academia and industry and are comfortable in navigating different development environments. Familiarity with the Swedish and European AI innovation landscapes is a big plus. You communicate well in English, Swedish is a plus. We're looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills. You're a strategic thinker, self-driven and structured. You communicate clearly, build trust with partners, and present ideas confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences. You're curious and analytical, yet pragmatic - able to balance innovation with real-world constraints.
Are we a good match? Join RISE and help shape the future of AI in Europe. Here, you'll be part of building the next generation of AI capabilities and infrastructure - an essential piece of Europe's strategic AI efforts. You'll work at the heart of innovation, collaborating closely with leading AI experts at RISE and Linköping University, and connecting with partners across the continent. This is your chance to be where things happen, driving autonomy research and leading development within one of RISE's most forward-looking areas. Welcome with your application! If you are interested and want to know more you are welcome to contact department manager Stella Riad, stella.riad@ri.se. The application deadline is October 26. Apply without cover letter. Selection and interviews will take place continuously during and after the application period. Our union representatives are Ingemar Petermann, SACO, +46 10 228 41 22 and Linda Ikatti, Unionen, +46 10 516 51 61.
