The arena
We are looking for a scientist with a PhD, or equivalent, and with extensive experience of respiratory disease and cell biology. A thorough understanding of the biology of respiratory and inflammatory models from human and animal origin is required.
In this role you will design and develop cellular models and generate in vitro biology data to support project progression. You should be able to apply disease knowledge, pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or immunology to support project progression.
In this role you will be lab-based, demonstrate expertise in your own area, propose experimental strategies, trouble shoot problems and make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects.
The role
Accountabilities:
• To lead development of cell-based assays to enable evaluation of targets and compounds for projects within respiratory and inflammatory diseases
• To design, execute and analyse experimental procedures according to agreed timelines
• To ensure that one's scientific knowledge influences project progression in accordance with portfolio priorities
• To show self-awareness of training needs including leadership development
• To maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature
• To act as a mentor, coach and role model for research scientists
• To contribute to the continuous improvement process by identifying opportunities in the workplace
• To contribute to writing abstracts/patents and peer-reviewed publications
• To demonstrate if appropriate for the discipline, understanding of intellectual property strategy for drug discovery projects as exemplified by contributions to, or writing of, patents and the significance in securing AZ's position
• To participate in and contribute to local discipline review groups. May lead one or more aspects of the scientific discipline within their team.
• To participate in the evaluation of external collaborations. May be a key member of a collaboration or supervise (not line manage) an external scientist for AZ
• A willingness to apply, within their discipline, innovative approaches to the drug discovery process aligned to the functions needs..........
