We are now looking for a Senior Research Scientist focused in Cellular Reagents for a long term position at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg. The role is a consultant assignment and with the right profile and a lot of passion, this might be the start of a fruitful employment at Pema Engineering & Science.

The Arena
You will join the Discovery Sciences organization, working within a first-class scientific environment to support drug discovery. The Reagents and Assay Development department (RAD) of Discovery Sciences, is responsible for the generation of novel cellular reagents and assays to support projects in all phases of the drug discovery pipeline.
The role
• To provide strong expertise in the competency of Cellular Reagent Generation and with a focus on cell line generation using traditional and precise genome editing approaches for use in cellular assays, target identification and target validation.
• To be an authority in the arena of cell science and precise genome editing, to lead this from a lab-based perspective and make significant contributions to the practical delivery of project goals.
• To coach and support more junior scientists
It is essential to have good social and communication skills, be collaborative and a strong team player. Excellent English is required, both spoken and in writing.
Tasks
• To develop cellular reagents for target based approaches and phenotypic assays, target identification, target validation
• To design CRISPR-based strategies and tools required to generate cellular reagents to meet project needs
• To perform confirmation of cellular/genetic manipulation and functional validation of engineered cells
• To perform target identification and target validation studies in early projects
The following skills are highly desirable
• Development of stable cell lines utilising traditional, viral and Precise Genome Editing (CRISPR) techniques
• Transient and stable transfection utilising different technologies such as electroporation (Maxcyte, Nucleofector, Amaxa), lipid and PEI
• Knowledge of viral tools for expression and cell line generation
• Isolation of clonal cell lines (MACS, FACS, limiting dilution
• Expert knowledge in the design and generation of Precise Genome Editing (CRISPR) strategies, tools and reagents required for cell line generation, target identification and target validation
• Genetic (ddPCR, NGS, AmpliconSeq) characterization of engineered cell lines
• Functional (phenotypic assays, expression analysis) characterization of engineered cell lines
• Culturing and functional characterization of recombinant cell lines, primary cells and iPSC in both small (multi-well plates) and large (cell factories) scale
• Experience of drug discovery and cell deliverables in an industrial or biotech setting
• Practical knowledge of cell-based assays for drug discovery would be beneficial
Accountabilities
• To lead and act as a mentor, coach and role model for research scientists
• To use judgment and knowledge where appropriate to influence projects, and scientists within the departmentT
• o work independently to contribute to the design and analysis of experimental procedures by incorporating the views of others
• To interpret experimental data and play a significant role in the planning of further experiments
• To maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature
• To contribute to the continuous improvement process by identifying opportunities in the workplace where improvements can be made
• To be an effective team member in supporting Discovery Projects to meet their objectives
• To contribute to Lead Generation plans and building screening cascades and target validation strategies
• To achieve personal scientific visibility through project contributions, internal and external presentations and writing abstracts/patents and peer-reviewed publications
• To schedule agreed work-plans over agreed timelines such that the objectives of the team are met
• To understand and evelop, if appropriate for the discipline, an intellectual property strategy for the project and its significance in securing AZ's position
• To participate in and contribute to local discipline review groups
• To identify improvements in technologies that can be successfully applied to advance departmental disciplines and contribute to achieving Business goals
Minimum experience
You should have a Ph. D. degree or corresponding experience in a relevant scientific discipline with experience in drug discovery or, alternatively, a first degree and significant relevant experience in drug discovery.
