The Applied Stem Cell Sciences team at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden are looking for our next colleague to join us Senior Research Scientist focusing on in vitro Target Validation to support . In this position you will play an important part in our growing Translational Genomics department.
You will be working alongside our stem cell scientists and disease areas specialists. Using your strong knowledge and experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and assay technologies you will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge cellular models of disease to validate various target hypothesis.

What you will do:
As a Senior Research Scientist you will contribute in this lab-based role and focus on cellular model generation and validation for a range of target biology research programmes. Some of the main responsibilities include culture of primary cells, differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), cell line engineering and using these model systems to validate novel targets and mechanisms using a variety of assay technologies.
In the daily work you will develop and support a number of disease-relevant cell culture models across a variety of therapeutic focus areas. In collaboration with your colleagues, you are responsible for designing and executing cell-based experiments to validate novel targets using tool compounds and genetic knockdown/gene editing approaches. Along with this you will culture and differentiate hPSC lines to physiologically-relevant cell types in 2D or 3D culture conditions and perform molecular biology protocols in support of in-house quantitative PCR, digital PCR and NGS assays.
Essential in the role:
* PhD in Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Gene Editing or a BSc/MSc degree with significant experience.
* Experience with the culture of multiple mammalian cell types including primary cells and stable cell line generation.
* Demonstrable experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques including CRISPR/CAS9 applications and relevant bioinformatics tools.
* Hands on experience with quantitative assay development such as qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western blots and/or cell- based functional/ potency assays.
To be successful in the role, you should also have great communication skills with ability to build open and collaborative relationships and enjoy team work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
