We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join our team in Gothenburg Sweden, where we focus on delivering reagents and assays primarily for Cardiovascular and Metabolic diseases and Respiratory and Autoimmunity.

You will join the Discovery Sciences organization, working within a first-class scientific environment to support drug discovery. The Reagents and Assay Development department (RAD) of Discovery Sciences, is responsible for the generation of novel cellular reagents and assays to support projects in all phases of the drug discovery pipeline.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Applying strong expertise in the competency of cell biology, working primarily with immortalized cell lines with opportunities to use primary and iPS cells, and cellular engineering. The focus is on cell line generation using traditional and precise genome editing approaches for use in cellular assays, target identification and target validation. To devise, champion and develop scientific areas aligned with project needs. To be an authority in the arena of cell science and precise genome editing, to lead this from a lab-based perspective and make significant contributions to the practical delivery of project goals. To coach and support more junior scientists by advising and challenging them and by providing expert advice to aid interpretation of complex data. To provide disciplinary scientific leadership and represent the department at internal interdisciplinary meetings in addition to external meetings and to publish novel science in high impact journals. To propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and make significant contributions to the practical delivery of projects in compliance with AstraZeneca corporate responsibility policies and relevant safety standards.

It is essential to have good social and communication skills, be collaborative and a strong team player. Candidates should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem solving attitude. Good organisational skills are required and you should be comfortable in presenting your results. Excellent English is required, both spoken and in writing.

Tasks:
To develop cellular reagents for target based approaches and phenotypic assays, target identification, target validation
To design CRISPR-based strategies and tools required to generate cellular reagents to meet project needs
To perform confirmation of cellular/genetic manipulation and functional validation of engineered cells
To perform target identification and target validation studies in early projects

The following skills are highly desirable:
Cellular engineering using traditional and PGE methods
Cell biology and manipulation of immortalized, primary and iPSC cells
Knowledge, generation and use of viruses (lentivirus, AAV, Adenovirus) for cellular engineering and screening
Culturing and functional characterization of recombinant cell lines, primary cells and iPSC in both small (multi-well plates) and large (cell factories) scale

Essential Requirements

You should have a Ph. D. degree or corresponding experience in a relevant scientific discipline with experience in drug discovery or, alternatively, a first degree and significant relevant experience in drug discovery.
